Making Fathers Day better when you've lost yours

I wondered how others do Fathers Day when you've lost your Dad? Everyone around me has plans as they have theirs or have kids. It's looming on Sunday and I'm thinking: what can I do to make it a more bearable day? My first one without mine. I'd like to do something that he'd think I'd spent my day well.

We didn't bother with Father's Day when he was alive so not bothered now but my daughter tucks into a good curry and toasts him with a single malt on his birthday.

A long walk in the countryside, fishing or watching car rallying/rugby.

Although he's not here, I spend time with him in other ways, during the day, that's my time to be the dad, this year, my kids are taking me out for a meal, I'm paying, but they are taking me lo!.

But when my daughter has gone home and my son is in bed, I'll listen to love me love you back, a song my dad and his brother made back in Trinidad, I added a bass track to it so it sounds like I'm playing in the band too, you can't feel down when your listening to old time calypso

I have 2 grown up gorgeous girls(well they are woman with kids) but still girls to me, and they shower me with gifts.. im a lucky guy

Ill probably take flowers to my dads grave and have a chat with him,then maybe watch something we both used to watch together .Miss.

He wouldn't want you to be upset.. Do something upbeat to celebrate and have fun.. When it's your turn to die you,ll catch up with him.

I just take flowers.down the grave but he died on new years day so always do something. Weird this year as probably my stepdads last and my sons first/

Even though my dad has gone ive never felt that he is deceased ,just that i havent seem him in a long time,i talk to my dad every day have done for nine years not only fathers day

Lost my Dad when I was 21 and he was 52. It still hurts and not just on Father's Day. I find thinking of daft things we did together or stuff that made him laugh helps. I don't drink but I used to raise a glass of Tolly Cobold on his Sunday as it was his tipple. It was my first (legal) drink when he bought me a pint at his local the 3 Pigeons, Begbroke. Great memories.

Coincidence that we lived in Oxford but he drank an Ipswich beer and I moved to Ipswich ....

I was only 12 when my dad died, never really knew him to be honest as he was very strict so we all kept out his way, I do wonder how my life would have been with him in it.

It will be hard especially being the first. Do you have any brothers / sisters? If you do can you spend some of the day together? If not....you will be sad.....but as an earlier poster said, he wouldnt want you to be sad would he.....just as you wouldnt want people to be sad about you not being around any more Get up ...go for a walk...do something ...try and be busy xxx
