I don't use it myself, but this week Jack Monroe yet again came under horrific abuse from a vile and odious man, to the point where she felt like she wanted to take her own life, again. Twitter at the time said it was powerless to close down the account, and the abuse continued for another 24 hours. Thankfully this despicable cretin has been arrested, but why should someone have to put up with this, and be left to feel vulnerable and helpless by someone else.

No one should. Twitter could code their website to be able to filter words from messages, just like other websites.

Too much hassle for them though.

You can block people on Twitter. Really easy to do.

If people get abuse on Twitter just either block them or switch if off

If you're likely to commit suicide over trolls then best to stay away from social media all together instead of expecting it to be something it's not

Yep; last time I looked, there was no law saying that it was compulsory to be on Twatter.

This, because It sounds like it's making mental health worse so it's a negative influence. Trolls are vile but they won't disappear unfortunately. They can be prosecuted though.

I've recently abandoned all the social media malarkey. Too time consuming and all rather passive aggressive of late, and I've just got other priorities that don't involve finding out what Auntie Maud is eating for breakfast. Have to say my life is much more tranquil without it

Twitter IS shit for cunts and what you say is fair enough but should someone have to avoid somewhere because of what amounts to bullying?

Pretty much the same as any other online account.

An email address and a password.
