Spanish PM's anger at David Cameron over Gibraltar

Spanish prime minister Mariano Rajoy is unhappy about David Cameron's reported plan to make an EU referendum campaign stop in Gibraltar.

Mr Rajoy has said he wants Britain to stay in the EU.

But he added that Spain views Gibraltar as Spanish regardless of what happens in next week's referendum, according to Spanish newspapers.

The PM is expected to visit Gibraltar to urge the 23,000 UK citizens entitled to vote to back remain.

If it is a brexit, what faith is in store for the uk citizens there and abroad, do they have to come home?

What gets me is the Gibraltar people want to be British but are not keen on our taxes, vat free etc, yet another example of wanting to cheery pick your Britishness I think.

We should poke 2 fingers up to Senor Roy as we have always done to the Spanish. They have no legal claim to Gib and the residents wish to be British. Simples.

Why would they have to 'come home'? Gib. IS their home and it always will be. Anyone visiting Gib. will tell you they are a fiercely British people and their only concern is about any possible 'deal' with Spain whether we stay in or leave the EU. For Cameron to be trotting all the way out there for 23,000 voters shows desperation so stand by for some 'Project Fear' threats about how Gib. will be abandoned if we leave. Total lies of course.

In fairness to Cameron at least he has (so far) stood by the Gibraltarians unlike Blair & Co who tried to sell them out to the Spanish for some grubby deal.
