"So, this week I have a huge abscess on my gum and it's freaking painful! I look like a lopsided chipmunk! Ive been prescribed metronidazole (so no alcohol for at least seven days) and some kick ass pain killers which just make me drowsy! Anyway, I've rung the Universal Credit Service Centre to cancel this mornings appointment at the Job Centre, to be told it's not a valid reason and that I risk being sanctioned if I don't attend. So,rather reluctantly, I'm having to get up and dressed and go. I feel like crying! I need cheering up (again) and so want to hear about some of the excuses you've used (real and not so real) to get out of things. I wanna giggle but not too much because it hurts! " Please make a HUGE fuss whilst there. Cry, cry lots and vomit if you can. From what I hear, these people are VILE.

Yeah I go alone with that, if your face is swollen and its obvious to look at you your telling the truth make the interview as hard as possible make out you can't talk and waste loads of their time

"Not sure about getting out of anything but I once ended up going home with a girl I'd only met that night. She was completely smashed and fell asleep in her house. I sat for over am hour doing a word search then left. Next day both the girl and my mates didn't believe that I did a word search and left. I still can't believe I did it either. I'm mean a word search ffs???" Did you take the word search with you because that makes all the difference to this story

"I was one working out my notice over the Christmas New Year period of 1999-2000 in a job that had left me physically injured. I ended up phoning in with a tale of having caught the millennium bug from my PC. "

"They can be very uncaring, but to be fair, I understand it because they get so many excuses. Admittedly, if you can walk you should still attend... I remember when my Grandad died (he lived with us), we literally woke up and went into his room to find him slumped in bed with blood everywhere. I was meant to be starting a new job that morning but we were waiting on an ambulance, the police and the coroner to come to the house and we were all a complete mess. Somehow, through the shock, I managed to ring my new boss and we rescheduled my start date for 2 weeks time. However, I had rescheduled my sign-on date for the start of the new job and it was meant to be that day. I still went to the Jobcentre the next day to get out of the house and was basically met with a torrent of accusations, saying they could sanction me for not starting my job and then not coming in to sign on that day as the start date was moved and "I had no excuse not to attend". I couldn't believe what I was hearing and had a complete meltdown. This stupid woman was telling me I had to provide a death certificate as proof - he had JUST died the day before and she was talking to me as if I was lying and/or he wasn't a "valid" family member to be upset over, not to mention I was still in distress as I obviously couldn't shake the image of him laying there, covered in blood. I lost my shit with her and she walked off, but luckily a manager came back and apologised for the situation and said I obviously didn't have to provide anything and they were sorry for my loss and that I had been spoken to that way. At the time I was livid but, as I said, I do now understand as they hear so many excuses. - Amy. x" It is still no reason to mistreat people, reduce them to tears. No.
