harder up north

On a horrible drive up north in the rain we made regular stops as weather made driving hard.

I noticed on the back of the ladies toilet doors the charity posters got more gritty the further north we got.

In the midlands it was help flush away poverty (like a reminder to wash your hands)

Further north it was your family are dead, your house is destroyed, your period has started.

Both toilet related too and I'm sure not supposed to amuse me, but it was a harsh journey.

So my question is......

Is it harder to get people to donate to charity the further north you go?

Anyone seen any harsher ads?

I don't know if it's harder. Certainly a lot of generous folk up north - some'd gi'yer ther last quid.

I think in general charity appeals and the chuggers who hound me in the street are getting more agressive in their tactics.

Makes me laugh they want you to stop and chat. They have to keep up to talk to me

Being from relativity up north... I regularly give to charity but it's a local charity that raises money for local families! Charity begins at home! Xx

You can't walk through queen street with out being stopped by charity workers, big issue sellers, or homeless beggars.

Ive even befriended a guy collecting money for the shaolin monks.

I doubt it theres probably some stats online somewhere though.

I guve to two different charities a medical and homeless one. Im also donate through workplace giving. xx

Exactly; I was thinking exact same thing, it makes me laugh what some consider "up North"

Hull

I once did Voluntary work with a charity in Hull, working for the retail division of a local Hospice.

Then, they'd 26 shops on Hull and the East Riding, now expanded to over 30 including South and North Yorkshire too. They raised over £1.5m each year and that grows year on year.

I and the other drivers shifted tons of stuff every day!

From the people I know up here compared to down there, I'd say it's the exact opposite.

My friends down south always use the excuse it costs so much more to live down there so they need the money. People up here would donate their last quid and go without if it meant helping a neighbour, charity etc.

Just in my experience anyways
