Takes about 2 to 4 weeks and only use the personal plates on new car and let the insurance know once you have received the new paperwork from dvla.

Exeter

It can now be done online if you have the new v5 in your name, can only be done Mon. to Fri. during office hours but it is immediate.

If that's all you've got to be stressed about, life must be good

Agreed

Buy plate. Await paper work from Dvla. Get plates put on car and ring your insurers. Some insurers will charge an admin fee for the privilege. We don't

Its cheaper to change your name by deed pole than it is to buy a private plate, just saying

If you are buying from a garage they will do it all for you as for insurance you just tell them what date and time the plate is on the new car

Simples

You can do it this way or get the dealer to do it, absolutely no problem and can be done before you even receive your new V5C for the car you are taking it off

Speak to the garage you are buying the car from, I changed mine last week
