CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Q/F DRAW

Real Madrid v Tottenham

Chelsea v Manchester United

Barcelona v Shakhtar Donetsk

Inter Milan v Schalke 04

.

Ties to be played on 5/6 and 12/13 April.

~

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE S/F DRAW

Inter Milan/Schalke 04 v Chelsea/Manchester United

Real Madrid/Tottenham v Barcelona/Shakhtar Donetsk

.

Ties to be played on 26/27 April and 3/4 May.

~

I can't see Spurs overcoming Real Madrid & Barcelona so that's a shitty draw for them, but it should see a semi-final between Real & Barca so that's a good draw for the others!

Chelsea v Man U? - could go either way, but my money's on Utd. (yes, I'm baised lol)

Inter should beat Schalke, setting up a semi with United.

United v Barca in the final.

...and we owe them one for the last time we met them in the final and forgot to turn up!!

The current Barca side have to be one of the best sides of all time.

Still that doesn't mean they will automatically win. It's normally the team that can bore everyone else to death, so I go for Chelsea.

In light of Mohammed Al Fayed's planned statue of Michael Jackson at Fulham, Arsenal have announced their intentions to unveil a statue of Bullseye legend Jim Bowen outside the Emirates with a plaque reading "Let's look at what you could've won!!"

"I'm gonna go

Chelsea v Man U is probably the only tie that could go right down to the final minute. The others are no brainers to my mind.

Interesting you have Real to beat Barcelona in the semis though, Ronaldo has bagged 22 goals for Real this season and they are still in 2nd spot behind Barca in La Liga - but maybe that's down to Messi netting 24 times for Barcelona along side his teammate David Villa who's on 18 goals himself!

Sadly Ashley Cole may have to wait til May 28 to have Messi in his back pocket again.

but I just get the feeling Jose will try to stop Barca playing. Hard over 2 legs I know but Chelsea almost did it 2 years ago barring some 'esoteric' refereeing

from a Norwegian.

a barca v utd final would be brilliant.

Interestingly, Barcelona thumped Real 5-0 at home in La liga and the two meet again on 17th Apr at the Bernabeu - just 10 days before a predicted SF clash between the two in the CL.

5-0 is a big hurt for Real and they're gonna want some payback for that.

Fergie on a touchline ban, Vidic out, Ferdinand out, O'Shea out, Raphael Da Silva out, Evans out, Park out, Owen out, Anderson out (thank god), Flethcer out, Hargreaves out (has he ever been in???)..

..if there was a good time to stop United in their tracks, this is it, although I think Chelsea have left themselves too much to do. Arsenal have the greatest opportunity for their first piece of silverware in 6 years - but then they seem to capitulate just as they are about to put their hands on it.

Hmmm..When I started supporting Chelsea they were owned by an English family (the Mears') then an Englishman (The Godlike K.Bates) Then a Russian. During those years we've been good, bad, brilliant, deceptively indifferent and fucking awful. The amount of pride I have in my team has never changed..it doesn't matter to me one iota the nationality of the owner. They're my team and they're English.

Fernando Torres is playing so badly the papers are running out of 'goal drought' analogies.

One claimed yesterday that he "couldn't hit a trainee with an air rifle from 10 yards"

If you think about it he hasn't actually done it in the EPL for any sort of sustained period. His first season for Liverpool was good but since then he has been awful in between being crocked!

Apparently Drogba despises him also.

It was definately a penalty. Hernandez got to the ball first and the momentum of Blackburn's keeper took him into Hernadez's legs. Contact = foul, and in the penalty area, it's a penalty.

Just thought I'd get that in first.

Although forgive me if I don't cheer too loudly. This game could go either way at the moment.

Newcastle and Gateshead

worked out what needs to happen next week.... i think....

okay... so any 2 from 5 can go down.... who goes???

Blackpool at Man U, Blackburn at Wolves, Birmingham at Spurs, Wigan at Stoke

same points.......Birmingham have a +1 goal difference over Blackpool, who have a +1 goal difference over wigan...

in England IF Goal Difference is the same... the next thing they Consider is Goals Scored.... at the moment... Blackpool Hold that Tie Breaker... Blackpool (53) Wigan (39) Birmingham (36).....

so the simple tie breakers....

the only way Wolves and Blackburn both now go down is if they draw.... and Birmingham/Blackpool/Wigan win.....

the loser of the wolves/blackburn game will go down if any 2 of Birmingham/Blackpool/Wigan win....

wolves will be jumped by blackpool if blackpool draw and wolves lose by two or more goals..... on goals scored

so.... at the moment.... If they all draw next week ... Birmingham Stay Up...

wigan stay up with they win and both Birmingham and Blackpool draw or lose.......

Blackpool stay up if they win and both Birmingham and Wigan draw or lose

how no one had there own saftey in there own hands... because below if both win or lose....the following comes into play

if Blackpool better Birmingham's result next weekend by more than one goal, i.e win by more than one goal... or lose by one less goal.... Blackpool will jump Birmingham on "goals Scored"......

if Wigan better Birmingham's result next weekend by more than two goals, i.e win by more than two goals... or lose by two less goals... Wigan will jump Birmingham on "goals Scored"....

if Wigan better Blackpool's result next weekend by more than two goals, i.e win by more than two goals... or lose by two less goals....

Wigan will jump Blackpool on "goal Difference"....

hope you understood all that.. i may test you on it later....

@Fabio

I have a sneaking feeling that Ferguson will field a weakened side against Blackpool so he can save the first choice team for the CL Final. He can head off accusations of deliberately fielding a week team as he has done that same thing a few times this season already.

I hope Blackpool do win as I think the PL is much better with a character like Ian Holloway in it, and on their perfomances this season Blackpool have fared better against the big clubs than any of the others fighting it out down there at the foot of the PL, with the exception of maybe Wolves.

With West Ham already gone, my money is on Birmingham and Wigan to join them as I can't see Wigan beating Stoke and Birmingham will be on the receiving end of a mauling from Spurs who will be desperate to keep that 5th European slot. If those two games pan out that way Blackpool only need a point for PL survival and the Blackburn/Wolves game won't even enter into it. However, as you say, if Blackpool don't get a point they must lose by 2 goals less than Birmingham lose by, giving them a better goal/dif. Simplifying it, Blackpool can afford to lose 1-0 but Birmingham must then lose 3-0. If Blackpool concede any more than one goal without scoring themselves, or if Birmingham score against Spurs, I can't see Blackpool staying up.

I think Birmingham will go down.

Wigan will get a result at Stoke who will have an FA cup hangover and survive.

We'll play a stronger than expected team against Blackpool which will sadly see them relegated.

Fergie won't make the same mistake as last time by giving all his 'first choice' a 2 week rest, he will want to keep some of them match sharp.

He'll also want the right type of party atmosphere that only a win brings to celebrate the title (remember the muted celebrations the season West Ham survived on the last day at our place).

If Birmingham go down there will be riots after pics got out via twitter of their hell raising end of season (with a game to go) party a few days ago.

Out of touch with their fans? CHECK!

i hope blackpool,beat the drop.

everything about them is impressive, the manager, speaks his mind, and sod the consequences.

most newly promoted teams, concentrate on defence.they just go for it,they play good, attacking, entertaining football.

the premiership, would be worse off without them.

Newcastle and Gateshead

I'd like the congratulate the manager who won the fab forum fantasy football league....

after 2 consecutive years of blowing it in the last 2 weeks of the season... finally they have taken off the bridesmaid tag... and taken up there rightful place as champion...

the board made it clear, that if they failed to bring home the gold... they would be out the door....

and thru all the pressure.. they made it to the end with grace and humility...

so... after all that.... the winner of the Fab fantasy football league this year is.....

ME!!!!!!!

yes... and arsenal fan won something this year!!!!

I'd like to thank my mum and pops... all the supporters of Lokomotive Low Fell..... and especially darren bent and adam!!

the round of the parade will go past the Taj Mahal (the indian resturant) the dog and duck, low fell high street and finish just under the angel of the north.. with some white lightening cider... and lambrini for the ladies!!!!

The friendlies start again in 3 weeks, always a good time for seeing the new signings. I think there are a lot more deals to be done.

I'm impressed that Fergie has got out of the blocks quickly with the chequebook.

Ferguson is doing what he can to stave of any potential threat from Chelsea but as for beating Barcelona in the CL should we draw them again, I think he's got a long way to go to even coming near them. And that's from an MU fan!

Should be an interesting season ahead. I honestly thought Chelsea were going to run away with it last season with the 6-0's they were thumping in in August. Buying Torres in January was a mistake but I can see why they bought him. He'll come good sooner or later as he's a proven goalscorer, so they'll be up there fighting United, City, Arsenal and Liverpool. I hope the five of them keep it going for as long as possible. The relegation run in last term was the most exciting I've seen for a while so it would be great to see a title run in that's just as exciting.

Looking forward to the new season!

Sunderland finished 10th last year with youngest team in the PL and we have made some cracking signings so far with a few more to come, watch out for Conner Wickham next season we payed 13mill for him (almost, the deal aint through as I type), he's only 18 but looks like a future England player.

Bring on the new season! I'm hoping we will break the top 6 with a bit of luck and no injury plague like the last two seasons.

I was biting my nails to the knuckle in those last few matches. I could see Chelsea hunting us down and if there were a couple of more games than there was I think they may have overhauled us. The fightback started a couple of weeks too late. Their new manager won't make that same mistake as he's accredited with being a master tactician.

Can't really see him going to a South American club because they haven't got the money for the transfer fee or his salary.

If he does sign for them, I can't see City getting their money without a fight, or poor old Carlos getting paid regularly.

It was like watching the CL Final all over again though. United let Barca spend far too long on the ball and when we got it they were all over us. Keeping possession is the way to play against Barcelona and we didn't do that. The difference this time was that we took our chances, apart from Olwen missing an open goal from 3 yards out right at the end. Should have been 3-1.

Now you know how we felt with the Ronaldo saga. There comes a point when the fans just want a decision made one way or the other. Barcelona is his boyhood club so it's not surprising he wants to play for them.

Barca have to be careful though as they are as much subject to the new financial fairplay rules as English clubs are, and Barcelona have been operating at a loss for many years now. Real Madrid are in the same boat. Fabregas' price tag could prove to be a transfer too far for Barca.

De Gea will be a success, his footwork and distribution are second to none. I'm very confident in his ability.

Smalling was immense, Welbeck, Cleverley both superb and Anderson bossed the midfield.

Laugherpool hahaha how crap are you we won at home!!!!!

I want to run around the streets naked screaming Mackie Cisse and Derry's names at the top of my voice.

I never felt more like singing the blues, when Rangers win and Chelsea lose.

meh, we lost 3-2 fairy snuff, Cisse scored and Im glad he did. He was one of us once dont you know

And beating Liverpool at the minute is easy! It's like me being up front and les dawson in goal!

We know we arent doing well, we know we are having problems, but will admit it, unlike other teams.

And how did Chelsea do again?

They lost unfortunately but Siren's happy as she's a Newcastle fan and Chelsea's loss helps the Toon move closer to a Euro spot.

Very true.

However, SWP went where the money was at the time, (chelsea/man city) and as a scouser and football fan dont get me going on Barton!

If Newcastle do well, good on 'em even after changing their grounds name. Yes I am about history of one's club but thought newcastle may have had the decency to call it after bobby moore, but maybe im too much of a girl to appreciate money over sentiments.

Barton is a sore point for everyone.

Just enjoying our moment...they dont happen often.

So feel 3-2 make jokes. Ofcourse anfield cat is on twitter and did ask if anyone wanted to take him for a walk in liverpool...just to get practice holding onto a lead.

Haha leave our best keeper alone (the cat)

Enjoy your moment, I dont mind other teams... Excluding Man U, Everton and Bolton

Especially as we havent been playing to the best of our potential and have made shocking buys. Ffs come back Lucas all is forgiven

We are lol. Its sweeter because Ian Wright said we wouldn't get another point this season....yet his son plays for us. Shows what he knows.

Liverpool will be in europe from the cup win wont they? lets hope thats more than chelsea manage.

Chelsea are still in a European competition aren't they?..Oh yeah the only English club as well.

It's getting desperate when Liverpool have to win a second rate knockout tournament just to ensure qualifying for the 'Thursday Night Channel 5 Cup'

Absolute wonder goal by Peter Crouch for Stoke, has to be a strong contender for Goal of the Season.

With Rooney's overhead stunner last year it seems that City just can't help letting in Goals of the Season lol
