I'm losing the will to live in my current job. To say I hate it would be an understatement. I found myself sat there last night, bored to tears with this overwhelming urge to just say "fuck it!" and walk out. It's driving me a little crazy. Thankfully I am working on getting out of there asap but I'm not in a position to leave just yet.

Anyone else ever just had a enough of a job and in a moment of madness/clarity thrown the towel in?

I had a parcel delivery job in the 80's it really pissed me off with half a van full of parcels undelivered I drove back to the depot and told them to stick their cap job.

Yeah and it was the most brilliant feeling I possibly may of had, all the years of shit and bollockings gone. And the look on my toss pot bosses face as to where he was going to find someone to do the weeks work ahead will stay with me forever

When I was 18, I hated it with a passion, I felt like I was being bullied by other staff members and the manager was not much older than me anr friends with most of the other workers so asking her for help got me nowhere so I just walked out

I have walked out of a number of jobs, but I was a lot younger and had less responsibilities.

If your not independently wealthy or don't have a partner to take care of all the bills that need paying then it's difficult to just say fuck it.

One of the reasons why when I do change jobs it's a considered decision.

I (m) walked out of Goldman Sachs Bank in Zurich... after was informed that for "locals" the bonus had been cut but the x pats (99% US) were to get more.

3 hours later they called and offered stupid amount ... told them to f*** off...

Best thing ever did

They still had to pay me 5 weeks holidays, and 5 months overtime...started with new job within a week...

Yes in my younger years.

It was an agency job. Was supposed to be driving but instead they stuck me on sweeping and mopping.

I lasted 20 minutes, dropped the brush, threw the high viz at the manager and strolled out the front door, only pausing briefly to flick the middle finger at the spotty little geek who'd taken great pleasure in telling me I'd be a cleaner for the week.

I can understand where you are coming from op. I am in a job that I really can't stand but as others have said, with mortgages and kids, it's not easy to just pack it in. I am hoping to find s new job soon, can't wait. Hope it all goes well for you whatever you decide to do.

*MANY* times.

Back in the day you could quit on a Thursday and be starting anew job the next Monday, not so much now.

All the commenters talking about responsibilities and mortgages etc, remember, your mortgage payments don't care where the money came from, so you may need "a" job (or 2 or 3) but you don't need the "specific" job you have now.

All the commenters also talking like the job they have now offers them some sort of security... y'all need a wake up call, even your next paycheque is not 100% guaranteed and you need some sort of plan B... most recent high profile example is BHS.

As far as the OP goes, nobody else can advise you, because at the end of the day none of us will be there for you to pick up the bills.

And it didn't sit well with how I'd been brought up to 'do things the right way' but it was right for me at the time in my life. Still look back and sometimes think my God did I really just walk away. Self respect had a lot to do with it and I was worth far more than I was treated.

I've walked out of a job in the past, it felt great doing it,... As I'm now a little bit wiser , I'd suggest using the current employment as a paid job search provider., it's easier finding work when you're in work,

I've also left jobs and it's been frying pan onto the fire, sadly the grass isn't always greener.

I've walked before now and regretted it as I needed the money. Dole isn't paid if you walk...so if you can, best to stick it out whilst you find something better, looks awful on your cv too if you cut n run. Also can't get decent refs from a p-d off ex-boss. Have you considered registering with a job agency? They can find you work and as you move around regularly, you can see what a place is like to work in and often you can get job offers that way. Broadens your work experience too.

My first job I had, Turner/ Miller £100 a week. When I got paid it was, £35 a week they changed my pay without informing me. Sadly I never stayed that long after that conversation.

I have walked out a few, McDonald's when I was much younger, I hated it!!

I worked in a hotel when I first got married and they just used me like a bloody work horse, not really caring about letting the others around me, I just walked out

The last time was last year, I was going through my marriage break up and I was so depressed and not really thinking too much, my boss was lovely at the start but because I had so much time off and she had her figures she gave me warnings all over the place, so one day after she sat me down again (after being signed off again for two weeks by the doctor I might add) she was having a massive go at me and I thought 'I don't need this hassle in my life as well as everything else' so, I had some money saved up and resigned there and then, my intention was to work my notice but apparently my storming out her office was me leaving there and then, best thing I did because I'm sure the job was dragging me down more than I thought, as soon as I didn't have to go in that place every day, I felt so much better!! Took me a couple of months to find a new job and it was hard financially towards the end but I now have a job in a cafe and it's like my dream job!!

I wouldn't recommend it for everyone xx

I walked out of a stressful job in a finance department of a travel agent. I went straight into town, registered with an agency and spent the next 6 month's on various assignments. I met some lovely people in that time and only left to go on maternity leave. I didn't know I was pregnant when I left my job so I always blamed my hormones for that one!!

Loads of times when I was a hot headed bad tempered twat. Then I grew up calmed down and didn't walk out of a job for years until 12 or so years ago. I fancied a change and took a job doing heavy recovery work boss was a complete arsehole I lasted two weeks before I told him to shove it up his arse in front of a customer.

Luckily on my way home my boss from my last job phoned me to see how I was getting on and I told him what I had just done. He laughed and said well you better get your arse here as he'd just sacked the guy that replaced me and my old truck was waiting. Started back with him I was bloody lucky that day.

I gave 4 weeks notice on a job 30 years ago because I had enough of the boss. He said that I couldn't leave so I told him the reason. He said again that I couldn't leave and said some pretty disgusting shit so having given him a count down in weeks ended up dropping from 4 to 3 to 2 and then walked out there and then. I had only just been paid and filled my car up with the fuel in stores to make up for the loss of pay.

No regrets whatsoever.

My father always told me " never leave a job unless you had another lined up. Even if you hated it"

That was until the manager of an hotel I worked in aged 20, took the piss big style.

I'd always worked 50 hrs plus per week but only ever got paid for 40 .When I asked for overtime my manager said if I wasn't happy he would pay me an hourly rate, which I agreed .He then cut my hours to 15 Max.

My father was furious.

One Sunday night, my only shift that week I was due to work alone with 15 people booked in for meals.

My father got great pleasure out of phoning the hotel 15 mins before my shift to say I would no longer be working there.

The manager ended up having to work, not a happy camper.

Fortunately I was only out of work for two weeks .X

Yes. Have always worked with horses since before I left school. Had a job on an event yard and was basically worked into the ground. At one point I worked 23 days straight to apparently make up the time for 1 1/2 days holiday I had booked. Still to this day don't know how they worked that one out. I quit that job on my birthday 3 years ago and I haven't really worked with horses since. I recently started a different job working with cats and I love it. I basically get paid a silly amount of money to play with cats all day. It's great. Im no where near as stressed as I was

A few years ago I had a job that I didn't overly enjoy but was sticking out in tbe short term as it was a cushy and well paid number. My manager was vile, mutton dressed as lamb doesn't come close and she made my skin crawl. I'd been there a few months when during a one to one she suggested that if I was to fuck her I'd progress further and quicker. So I walked out got my stuff and left only pausing to tell her manager that I was resigning, not working my notice and that I expected to be paid my full notice.

Still quite proud of that and would love to know what the fall out waa

I gave my two weeks notice on another job and apart from my manager none of the rest of the staff knew i was going till my last day. My manager hadn't told anyone as she didn't believe I would go.

I was working for a charity managing a staff of volunteers many of whom had issues which meant they would be practically unemployable in a traditional sense. I had a problem with one staff member drinking and when I called him on it (fairly softly as I suspected alcoholism) his sister who also worked with us barged into the private meeting kicking off and attacked me.

I got a formal warning because the management team who approved all the volunteers were aware she was prone to violent and irrational outbursts and I should have anticipated it.

However, for her confidentiality they never told me this.

So I got attacked at work by a known violent person and I got the blame.

My last day began with a meeting of the management team and I took great pleasure in explaining why I was going

you're alright in my books so I shall give you this advice I have learned over time in life even though I am younger yourself.

you hate this job correct and wish to walk and can't stand it for another minute yes?

my advice would be is look for another job ASAP and start applying around and use that motivation to leave you're current job and focus it into looking for a new line off work but hold onto the current job till you find a new line off work..

My current work I'm okay/comfortable in doing because I get to work different venues/events etc around the country through out the year..

only down side to my work is dealing with the occasional piss heads/smack heads/knob heads/fights or domestics or occasional theft which occurs or something else serious amongst those lines going on.

that and some arse hole supervisor/higher up or colleague here and there but overall I like my line off work and am happy doing it in the long term because I'm comfortable in it..

bottom line is I have had past jobs I fucking hated but got myself into something else sooner or later which was much better then said my goodbyes and left and never looked back..

best off luck howard use that mindset to leave it as a fire to fuel you're motivation to apply around when and where you can for other jobs and when it's all set then exit quietly with no drama.

Yes, it was only a temporary agency job I had about 25 yrs ago. I had to hammer rivets into chain links before it went into the press.

I spoke to one bloke who had been doing it for 18 months and loved it

I went for lunch on day one and never went back

Yes! I worked for a well known pub chain last year. (The weather and a spoon for your pudding

) worst job I've ever had. I started a 6 hour shift. Busy day, lots of staff on shift. Got 3 hours in and literally felt the same as you described. (Had been feeling like that for a few weeks) I took off my till key and apron. Went do the the cloakroom. Got my coat. Walked right through the middle of the pub and out the door. They never even noticed until the next day!! Best thing I ever done. It was sucking the life out of me! Life's too short to stay in a situation that is making you feel sad/depressed.

Yes.. I left mine today. I sent a text telling them i won't be back. It is tough between bills and having an awful job.. Mine was doing my head in, finicky paperwork, then bored, then having to borrow tools to remove trackers from vans.. Then others moaning at me. Looking for something else tomorrow..

Got the piss taken out of me basically worked 60 hours paid for 40 Aberdeen and back basically in my own time .

Looked out for other jobs had 3 interviews and got the third job . Never looked back

Emailed my notice as soon as I was given the formal offer .

They put me on gardening leave the next day 10 days paid before my new job started .

Think smart and use every minute you can searching for you next ideal job

I walked out of a few when younger one I always happy with was when I got wrong and blame for what his mother and his brother had done. So I told him he needed to grow a set of balls and stop blaming others for their mistakes. And had great pleasure in telling his mother to wind her neck in for she don't speck to me like she was. Then told his brother to stop being a wanker. Walked in job centre expecting no money for 6 weeks. The lass told me to fill in forms and got dole straight away. For the place was know for not keeping people for long. That was before they let the computer make the decision. Lol

I started a temp job, years ago, at this place that was just awful. It was soul destroying and come lunch time, the woman training me was all "you can sit with us today as you are new" and I was all "um just gotta get something from my car first....." drove off and never returned.

no worries, just tell yourself for now you're doing this job to earn and pay the bills etc but look actively or as much as you can for a different job/line off work..

then when another opportunity approaches with a better job just grab it and move forward and leave this current job behind which seems to be making you "lose the will to live".

I've done it a few times, it's a great feeling just walking away saying 'fuck you' it really is a hell of a buzz. Don't get me wrong, I fave fallen on my arse once or twice but it's still a great buzz!

I'm presently in a situation where my company has acted so badly in treating me with various breaches of contract & employment law, Age discrimination and other laws.

I've enough evidence to allow me to walk out now, on Constructive Dismissal grounds, according to legal sources, but it's a case of waiting to see how my employers deal with the official approaches from me; so far, they're not handling it well, which adds more backing to my case.

Upsetting and stressful as it is, I have to just hang on in there until as such time when the inevitable words are said...."I quit".

Yep, handed my resignation in and told the management to go fuck themselves as they didn't do anything to develop people's skills, did nothing for morale, continually extolled the virtual of hierarchy whilst blatantly rubbed their employees face it it.... You're working the weekend whilst we all fuck off to Monaco for the F1!! Cunts!! See ya...

I did it once, hadn't been there long anyway, it was back in the 80's so I guess things were different back then but it was on the Thursday, got an interview on the Friday and started another job on the monday

It is always great when they ask; Where and when do you start your new job? And you reply; I don't know because I have not found one yet. They can never get their head around the fact that you would rather take a risk than stay at their company.

It has always worked out better in the long run.

Yep. When I was working for a courier company the manager was ringing me constantly & pissing me off so I just parked their van at the side of the road & got a bus home.

Bit of a mistake really as my car was parked at the depot!

I've never quit a job, but I did call time on a successful career that was consuming my very being......

I'm now in the very fortunate position of still being actively involved in that industry but on terms that provide me freedom from corporate attachment...

I consider my status as permanent semi-retirement ,,,,

Yes, Been their two years and they were sending me out on service jobs on my own without upgrading the pay. So walked into the office on the Monday morning to get my weeks worksheet & said I either wanted more money or day release to get my C&G..

Anyway the owner refused & gave me my worksheet which I promptly tore in half & went home.

Up to the smoke in the pm & started a new job the next day

Did it again after just getting married & buying my first house, walked on a Friday, into a new job that I knew nothing about on the Monday.

I started a new job doing what I am qualified to do, in a wood machine shop, walked in my new boss says you are upstairs today in assembly, i went upstairs assembly manager passes me a sweeping brush and says yeah they've said we can I've you for sweeping up, i passed him the brush back and said no you can't and walked out, 10 minutes start to finish
