Are the Orlando murders viewed as equally bad as if they'd happened to a group of people not liked by sexual orientation? I'm outside of the UK, so curious if it's slanted in it's view, including via the media.

I know we've had lots of posts and I'm just interested in this specific bias.

I think it's tragic and very bad indeed that 50 people are killed and 50 injured regardless of sexual orientation..and any media worth its salt would view it that way...

i havent seen any news reports that seemed biased or dismissive so far...though a sky repoter admirably walked out of an interview because they referred to it as 'random',dismissing the idea the LGBT community was being targeted...there's also been a huge vigil outside the admiral duncan in soho which has been widely and very well covered

I did read the sky news coverage refusing to agree it was a homophobic attract. Owen jones walked out.

Fox news in the usa has been similar, limited cover that it was homophobic too.

If it had been racist, anti-Semitic etc it would have been totally different.

Good for Owen Jones for waking out.

Certainly from the news I've seen, it is seen as a hate crime against the GLBT community. It also being condemned in exactly the same way as if it had been any an attack on any other Western community.

Ultimately it isn't a surprise that religious fanatics would target the GLBT community. All religions see the "Lifestyle Choice" as a sin.

It was most definatley aimed toward sexual orientation as was said before most if not all religions see it as a sin.

If not then why just a gay club? surely not just by chance given his beliefs, I would not be surprised if he was secretly battling with his own sexuality, would not be the first time.

In fact I wouod not be surprised if there are not a lot of radicals who hide their true feelings terrified of being found out because they know what would happen to them.

It's a shame that the news and polititions keep mentioning that its the biggest massacure by a a suspected IS sico becaause I am sure they are all cheering everytime they hear it.

It's just giving more fuel to the fear tactics they use to try and control.

Even though the Gunman had expressed his support for IS, and IS have publicly claimed "responsibility" for the atrocity, the authorities in the US have said that there was no actual connection or communication between the individual and IS.
