Listening to the radio was just reminded that my Grandma would always ask:

Are you courting?

Never hear that said now and no idea where the term comes from.

To get something for free; was common until quite recently

As in " can I bum a fag off you?"

Or "can I bum a lift to town!"

Presumably from the American use of "bum" to mean a down and out , or begger, so "bumming " became begging.
