"Was quite disturbing at the time, but quite tame compared to what's been released in the past decade. I agree it's disturbing but it didn't really scare me - I think it's somewhat very dark comedy at some points! The hospital scene is the most disturbing part IMO, though the spider walk in the novel's kinda freaky too." That scene is in the directors cut of the movie

"Was quite disturbing at the time, but quite tame compared to what's been released in the past decade." Really? I don't think it's been surpassed. Yeah visually it's a bit dated but the thing that sticks in my head are the sound effects that are very chilling and it's got a good pace too. Other than the exorcism of emily rose, I can't think of anything in the same league?

"It was a well made film of a true story,i watched an interview with william friedkin who said it really happened to a boy who still lives and has a family,i still think its a great piece of cinema" Apparently a number of people died in odd circumstances during the filming but it's pre-internet age so hard to tell if that's true or just an urban legend. The Blair witch project was about the last film that could really make something up, claim it was real but pull that off. Now everyone would Google it during the film!
