Was quite disturbing at the time, but quite tame compared to what's been released in the past decade.

I agree it's disturbing but it didn't really scare me - I think it's somewhat very dark comedy at some points!

The hospital scene is the most disturbing part IMO, though the spider walk in the novel's kinda freaky too.

That scene is in the directors cut of the movie

Have you read the novel too?

Yes, read it about 15 years ago I think, while on holiday, couldn't sleep

Really?

I don't think it's been surpassed. Yeah visually it's a bit dated but the thing that sticks in my head are the sound effects that are very chilling and it's got a good pace too. Other than the exorcism of emily rose, I can't think of anything in the same league?

Apparently a number of people died in odd circumstances during the filming but it's pre-internet age so hard to tell if that's true or just an urban legend.

The Blair witch project was about the last film that could really make something up, claim it was real but pull that off. Now everyone would Google it during the film!

Gosport

I was a young teen when this film came out. It was hideous! I read the book and could not sleep for weeks. People alll over the world were killing themselves after seeing it and I remember St. John's ambulance and church folk outside the cinema telling you not to go in.

It's odd that now it's almost a comedy.

Just thinking about this movie, did anyone see the spoof sequal with Leslie Nielson, Repossessed?

Fricken hilarious it is. And with the same girl too.
