Can anyone give me any info on this please. We have been caring for an elderly couple for around 10 years now, the old lady died in October and her husband is in a care home, just had a call saying the care home had requested an assessment on the gentleman and the want me to sign some forms on the matter. A relative of mine had the assessment. It's to ensure that whatever happens is in their interest, but the means are not nice, eg do they lack enough capacity to be restrained against their will.

Seems odd that it's down to you and not a relative to help with the assessment?

Look into getting an advocate who can help voice on the gentlemans behalf aswel, taking away some responsibility from yourself. A depravation of Liberty can be many things X

When I worked in a care home, we had to do many of these for our residents, they cover lots of areas, I hope you get it sorted soon

I deal with these at work. Message me if you want any specific questions answering.

They are very common and are in broad terms a good thing as they are a safeguarding measure. They are increasingly common particularly with dementia residents in care and nursing homes
