This doesn't need to be a thread where political scoring is afoot.

I'm curious about how people view the timeline over the next few years, should UK vote to leave the EU.

Im thinking

2016 - no changes at immigration level

2017 - uk travelers may or may not benefit from EU abolishment of phone roaming fees

2018 - Europeans still get free entry here and us to europe

2019 - EU agreement terms with UK still ongoing

2020 - still no UK /EU agreement reached

We may all be lovey

. It would take years of wrangling for anything agreeable to our partners and us, particularly if we want a different type of deal to Norway or Switzerland, with open borders.

I don't think we'll see any changes in the near future with the possible exception of the cost of European tourism, i.e. roaming charges, removal of the benefits provided by the European Health card. In the short term I think UK citizens will feel the pinch more if we vote to leave, long term I wouldn't like to hazard a guess

Few of us very clear or have ideas on this?

I kind of feel that the electorate should have been given better guidance upon what would happen post referendum, depending upon the outcome.

It feels that we could just continue with the same immigration for years and the OUT crew will be as unhappy as ever. Not worth voting you lot?

We are also assuming that the government - whoever will lead it won;t be Cameron in the event of an out vote - WILL still listen and take steps to divorce the UK from the EU.

A referendum isn't binding, under UK law.

Cameron will have to step down by the end of 2017 to give the new PM enough time to prepare for 2020. If we vote to leave then it will be Boris taking the party into 2020, but if we vote to remain it will be Osborne leading us.

It will take years to untangle ourselves from the EU and some regulations we've adopted will probably never be repealed. The next ten years are going to be very tough, for us and for the EU, regardless of whether we're in it or not.
