"I lost 11st when I woke up from the depression of my first marriage failing, I remember it well, I was particularly down because I had got myself trapped in a changing room in a clothes shop the day before, and it was 10:30 in the morning, and I was outside the local shop with a can of lager and an 18 pack of walkers crisps, I looked at myself in the reflection of the shop window, and didn't recognise myself, I went and bought a pair of trainers and started running, cut out the comfort food and started taking care of myself again, within 12 months I was down from just over 25st to 14st, I've put some back on since, but I find it harder to shift it now because I'm so damn happy with myself lol." right but would you say your mental had already started to improve which caused you to diet. Confidence yes thats increased, zest for like yes. But i cant think that losing the weight was the key factor for me. I went on a diet cause i just didnt want to be fat anymore. Also had you always been large or was it depression that caused it | |||

Also had you always been large or was it depression that caused it" The weight gain was a symptom of the depression, and it became a cycle of being depressed because I was fat and lonely, and getting fatter and lonlier because I was depressed, I just stopped looking after myself, I was in a deepening pit that it was increasingly more difficult to get out of, it took a couple of shocks to jolt me back to reality | |||

"I was depressed throughout most of my marriage and even though I had a high metabolism I still managed to pile the weight on... It didn't help that I was also diagnosed with an under active thyroid during that time which helped with the weight gain... Subsequently when my marriage ended, I lost 5 stone in just under 5 months and went from a size 22 to a 12, which is what I had been before I was married.. My depression lifted eventually but that's been replaced with panic attacks and anxiety but I still feel a hell of a lot happier slimmer than when I was fat " right so you where big but only got anxiety and panic attacks when you where back to being slim | |||

Just wasn't sure where the post was leading as personality disorders or depression are something I wouldn't want to give a glib answer to. I know someone who doesn't let herself get over tired, avoids alcohol and eats very healthy that has helped her. She's learnt what helps her maintain a better state of mind.
