Yes my growler was very poorly and it cost me a fortune .

My rabbit got injured once , a cat got into its hutch and got it by the neck . Cost £170 for vets to sort but she survived . Until she burrowed out of the run a month later vanished

they wont just put her to sleep they will tell you the options and let you decide. Its very sad but they do it in a lovely dignified manner

I took our rabbit to the vet. the vet said there was nothing he could do. I said are you sure. so he opens the surgery door and in comes a labrador who has a snoff shakes his head and walks out. then in comes a cat and looks at my rabbit shakes his head and walks out.

the vet says that will be £500. why so much I ask.

well you did ask for the lab report and the cat scan

the vet

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

My cat was run over a few years ago and the treatment cost me £800. Last year she moved in with my neighbour. Ungrateful little shit.

It's crazy isn't it.

I've not met a poor vet yet?

But our pets are part of our family and most of us will pay what we can to help them when they are poorly.

But I agree vets fees are big money unfortunately.

When I've had pets I've always had pet insurance. It's relatively cheap compared to the cost of treatment without it.

Do you guys have pet insurance in the Uk?

It's big here and covers most surgery sand treatments.

look after tonight and take her in the morning. If she has to be put to sleep they do do it in a lovely well. Shea older than the average age. Your going to be heartbroken but try a and take comfort you gave her a good life xxx

Yes we do but like most insurance companies they always try and wriggle out of coughing up. Both my cats broke a leg within weeks of each other and it saved me a small fortune in vets bills but I had to chase them for it.

They do the same here. But you have to stay persistent fighting them.

I had pet insurance for my dogs, never had a problem with it till my dog was diagnosed with epilepsy

I put in a claim for the bill and my insurance cancelled my policy

I call up ombudsman who told me so long as they put it in writing and gave me notice they have every rights to do this

So now I have an epileptic dog and no insurance company will touch him

In February I had my 18 hand Shire Horse put to sleep, he was 27 years old, the whole bill including disposal of his massive body was just under a grand. If you compare vets bills with any other call out service, day or night they compare to an emergency plumber or electrician. Vets have to train for more years than a doctor!

My cat got mauled by a dog. She was dying when I got her to the vets. They took her off me straight away, I assumed to put her to sleep. Instead, they worked on her for 15 minutes before she died. Cost me £375. They'd charged for all kinds of medication and even charged £45 for giving her oxygen.

Bloody hell. Just got back from the vets. Our 17 year old dog was put down. £160.

Countless war zones and seen many deaths but I cried over the dog.

£110 to bandage a burst cyst in a Shih Tzu's front paw, I wouldn't mind but we had to rebandage several times that day as well.

I think vets just assume all pets are insured and hike their prices accordingly.

Hi Ruby .... sorry to read about your cat (and to anyone else who's also had to have a pet put to sleep). We went through the same heartbreak 3 weeks ago with our 8 month old kitten who had an incurable condition, it's never an easy thing to do even when you know you have no real choice because their quality of life has become untenable. Forgive me if now is not the time to mention this but *if* you're not entirely happy with your vet, I noticed you're in Herts and would be happy to recommend what we think is a brilliant practice - they're compassionate, charges carefully explained and transparent, and have gone above and beyond the call of duty with real understanding and generosity many times for our animals over several years like you wouldn't believe. Message me if that's of interest to you. Big hugs for today, x.

Ms G
