"Looking at it from another perspective I never quite get it why the English seem to support other home nations but not in reverse. For example there always seems to be a lot of English support for the Republic of Ireland - er can you imagine them all in Dublin cheering on the English? It'll never happen! For me it's England or nobody. I'll take an interest in the other home nations the same as I would Iceland or Belarus - they're just another country that I'll watch in on as a neutral. Mind you, I am looking forward to England v Scotland at Wembley in November as that's always fiesty. I can't believe they expanded the Euros this year so any old 2 bob country could qualify and the Scots STILL didn't " Oii Scotland are just training and getting themselves ready for the world cup qualifiers next time round

" That happens all the time though and is the cause of a lot of the anti-English stuff. It seems petty, but I imagine that if you lived in England, supported England and most of the media coverage and all the adverts were about the Welsh team, there'd be uproar. It doesn't bother me, but I admit to being a bit grumpy when Emgland knocked us out of a couple of tournaments in recent times and when the finals were on Wayne flipping Rooney was staring at you in every shopping aisle. Really, it's all to do with an imbalance in the media - it'd be far nicer for English fans if they had a media that was just for them, rather than notionally being for the whole UK (and which understandably features England more and makes the other countries feel like foreigners when playing them). They could go full-on with their support then, like we do in Wales. I'm a fan of the Union, so prefer reading the London-based press. It is hard sometimes, though. Imagine a world where Wales won the tournament (I know, I know!) and in England, that's all you heard about for weeks to come. The English would go loopy. That's what we're facing in Wales if England win it! If Wales won it (I know, I know) there'd be little fuss outside of Wales. The fact England didn't play Wales for many, many years after the end of the home internationals is the cause of lingering bad feeling too. I'll be happy to see England do well, but dreading it a tiny bit.

""Anyone but England" is in the final today, for that reason I won't be cheering him on. I'm sure he understands the sentiment " Bit harsh given it was a silly, throwaway comment made to a journalist who'd been repeatedly poking fun at the Scotland team (not hard to do, admittedly) during the interview. "I was always supporting any part of the UK in sport, then I found the internet and saw the vitrol posted against England when they were playing and it did wane a bit. Then I thought to myself if people in other parts of the UK have that much hate in their bones then maybe they need to look at themselves and why should I be as vindictive as those people so I still support ALL parts of the UK when they are playing sports. " I agree that's bad. If you think that England supporters don't dish it out too though, you're sadly mistaken. I've experienced it plenty of times myself. I even know an English guy living in Wales who was beaten senseless by England fans because they mistakenly thought he was a "Welsh c**t". The Celts have plenty to answer for on this, but it's not all one way, by any means. It's just the classic imbalanced rivalry. We desperately want to beat the big guys i.e. England and want the rivalry to matter. The English don't give a monkeys about that and are too busy hating the Germans. Classic sporting nonsense basically.

Hmmmm well lens is not a big town either - most fans are staying in Lille and travelling in The fan park is only going to be for ticket holders only and that's 10,000 rumours are 120,000 are coming over It will be HEAVALY policed from the information I have got through official channels (and some unofficial) It will be lively don't get me wrong - but I am hoping for peaceful banter (or peaceful laughing at the Welsh)

England didn't have a good time of it there back in 98 and it depends how many locals will be out for a bit of retribution. Also the Russians may want a piece of it also. I am hoping it goes of peafully just as a England fan reputation.

But there's plenty of deragotary, unwelcome stuff coming the other way too. Try going to Twickenham in a Welsh shirt and listen to the Barbour jacket brigade mouthing off. There's low level sneering coming back the other way too. I'm completely agreed the Celts can be bad. I just can't agree when the English are painted as Saints in all of this. Seriously, a lot of it goes back to the media. Years spent watching football focus, when there'd be endless stuff about England, then the presenter would say "the other home nations are also in action this weekend". Every time. Watch an England v Wales game on Sky and you feel like a foreigner. I actually understand it, as the media have to play to their core audience, but it does fuel a feeling of "not belonging" among many. Like I said, if you can persuade me that the population of England will be happy being deluged with about Wales's miracle championship win all day every day for a few weeks, I'll shut up. That's what we're facing if England win.

Take the anti-Scots hatred being spouted by our current government and its supporters just last year at the GE. They switch it on to win votes but they don't do anything to turn it off and so there's a backlash.

" Your argument falls down though, in that the Scottish and Welsh Regional BBC channels focus on their games first You hardly get a look in at the English premiership, if you're watching in Scotland. Have you ever watched a match between Connah's Quay Nomads and Bala Town ? The same goes for any international. And quite right too

"As a proud Scot now residing in England, I have no problem supporting England in fact I've tipped them to win it.
