Pre authorisation

Random rant - I know it's not Thursday

Today I paid for a hotel room, where they said that I would have to pay a 50quid fee on top of the room fee but this would be paid back to me on check out - no probs

Anyway after a loverly afternoon with a loverly lady

We go to check out, anyway the receptionist ask for the price of the room...I was like wtf, I have already paid plus deposit for room

Anyway after the receptionist explaining badly that, aparantly I hadn't actually paid for the room just pre authorised it with the 50 quid

So I asked for the manager to complain, she said what I should have been told that the room was only pre authorised plus a deposit fee, and that I would get the deposit back. But I argued that I am actually paying twice, and that 3 days interest I will loose, anyway after a heated discussion the manager said they can deduct the amount for the room for the preauthorisation amount and return the rest to me.

Which is what they should have done in first place or, what should have done is charged me for room full price on card, a second pre authorisation for the deposit then return back to me on checkout

Now I wonder if anyone else has this very strange practice with hotels or was it this particular chain?
