My mate taught English as a foreign language to Spanish kids. She used this phrase as an example of how English saying can be a bit unusual

Apparently the word for eggs is basically the same word as for balls.

So she taught a load of school kids to say "Teach your grandmother to suck balls".

Kick the bucket. Animals used to be slaughtered and hung from a bar ( buchet in french). when they spasmed they would kick the bucket. So it became associated with dying.

Baby used to be bathed on tin baths. If you were not concentrating, you could tip baby away when you threw out the water. It means be observant and don't do something daft by ignoring the obvious.

It's not actually.

In olden tomes the man of the house had the first bath (with clean water) and then it went hierarchal with first son next, second son after etc until the females were bathed and then the baby but by that time the water was so dirty that the baby could literally be thrown out with the bathwater.

Analysing the saying it is clear that the mother would have had something to say about it and her baby would never have been left in the bath but the analogy is accurate. It means abject poverty.

No, it's not snowing because there are no precipitation bearing clouds, probably because we have an anticyclone typified by bright clear weather, which in winter means lower temperatures due to lack of cloud cover.
