Why do drivers still use mobiles when driving ?

There are hands free sets and ear devices too. Yet still see people using them when driving. Even on busy junctions and roundabouts. I'm one of those people that has to clear up the mess after an accident and it's too often the culprit., I don't understand the need to do it.

Its the txters that piss me off, new ones ive found are young females 18-20 year olds usually driving the super minis toyota aygo's and the like. Watching them in there rearview mirror heads down txting while driving. Yes i caaaann see you. ( this doesnt mean all supermini drivers are the same ) xx

I'm a non driver So have walked and used public transport for many years and the amount of people I see driving and on a mobile phone is shocking.

I don't actually see it being a certain age group either. It's both men and women. Some with children in the car too.

Do people not understand the danger or are they really that ignorant.

Amazing the amount of strange swerving, line straddling etc from the vehicle in front, turns out they're on the phone.

So easy to either use a hands free device or pull over somewhere.

The testers are the worst but I love the way the talkers put the phone on speaker and hold it six inches away from there mouth as if that makes it all ok

I totally agree it really unsafe & idiotic & very dangerous driving…yet I admit I did this myself the other day (used the phone, not caused an accident). It was really stupid & unlike me but I was emotional at the time. It was 1 min 34 secs before I put the phone down. I then pulled over !?!

I decided there & then that I must confront my technophobia about hands free sets & get one set up. Any advice on the best one & easiest to set up.

p.s I deserve all the abuse I'm anticipating but I am determined to address this issue…so take this opportunity to assist me…or not…up to you

Like all laws there has to be an enforcement of it, the reliance on automated cameras for speeding and other offences rather than traffic police means a lot of offenders get away with it.

They're the same people who drink and drive. I see them as either very selfish, self-centred individuals or just as thick as fuck. They don't see or think of anything outside of their little world. They are simply incapable of seeing the bigger picture. The world revolves around them...what could possibly go wrong?! They've also obviously never felt the pain of what can happen when something goes wrong in this sort of situation. They've never had to live through the life changing aftermath. If they had I can guarantee you they'd never dream of doing it.

Mainly because they think they're better drivers than they are, and that it'll never happen to them. Sadly by the time they realise they are wrong, it's sometimes too late.

I once drove straight over a busy main road in thick fog when talking on a hands-free: even a complex conversation on those can be distracting enough.

Now fitted front and rear cameras on my car for this exact reason. If someone hits me whilst they are on the phone I will get a good lawyer to sue there ass

Transport for London recently had an advertising campaign saying if you glance at your phone screen even for one second this can cause an accident. Then they licence a minicab firm that relies on the driver to use his phone to take bookings , navigate and charge the customer.

No wonder there is confusion when a government department condones the use of mobile phones whilst driving.

I don't drive see every time out about even when phone so far from ear texting at lights been on bus seen few head down texting away children in car idiots till something happens say pull up in safe place before texting or answer phone call but ignore till later road safty and other rd users more important
