Has anyone recently brought a TV? Is 4K worth it? Or are you hoping it will be worth it later when more content is available?

It's not worth it unless you're sooo into media and have 4K stuff to watch. No point investing if you're still on DVDs.

For general use I don't think it's worth the outlay due to lack of content. When its needed, the price will be halved by then. Same story as HD 10 years ago.

You would be best getting one if you are changing your tv as the cost to upgrade to 4K from normal HD is minimal now and won't be outdated as quick as everything moves up the scale. Not many freebies HD channels and sky you have to pay for HD channels

HD channels aren't 4k anyway...... Some blu Rays are but not TV channels....

I recently bought a Panasonic 55 inch 4k tv and using Netflix and sky ,amazon etc you can watch shows like breaking bad and orange is the new black in 4k.

The quality is amazing but only when the scenes are in bright sunshine and documentaries etc. The in door heavily lit scenes like music videos are just like watching Hd.In the main ive found it worth it but no british tv programs are shown in 4 k yet and by the time they are there will be 8k then 16k etc etc.

Lack of content at the moment would put me off.Look at how many channels haven't even reached HD standard yet.

8K is the resolution of the human eye, so there's little point in commercial displays going higher - they would be showing detail we couldn't discern.

Cameras will keep going of course, which will change some visual aspects of cinema (for the worse in my view).

Considering skyHD is 720p scaled up to 1080 using VBR encoding I'd settle for proper HD.

The mechanism for 4K delivery just doesn't exist and won't do for the foreseeable. Not worth it.

They're getting cheaper but surely the main drop in prices will come when the majority of the population are buying them and using that technology for 4k play.

I'm looking around now for a TV. I watch some TV but not that much. And rarely watch films etc at home. And investing big bucks into a technology that I may be able to use in the distant future just seems unwise. When I might want to, then the TVs will likely be improved and cetainly better value.

We mainly watch Netflix and Amazon prime stuff. I know Netflix does 4K but you have to upgrade to a more expensive package to get it. Does anyone know if Amazon does 4K content?

Yes and YouTube. Not much content though so check first.

Having grown up watching 405 and 625 lines monochrome television, my 10 year old Panasonic 720p still looks amazing to me.

I won't be upgrading until my present telly snuffs it.

They are not much dearer then a 1080 now. Tesco are doing a 48" 4k smart TV

For £299.00....if I needed a new TV I would get that

It's only worth owning a 4K TV if you have access to "Native 4K Content"

I do own a 4K TV but only when Im working at home. The family TV is a 1000hz 1080, it's perfect.

My company shoots 4 & 6K but streaming 4K remains a struggle, so it's going to be a while before Amazon, Netflix and the other channels make it available to the public. My best advice would be to wait out for a while.

How many people bought into Picture Disk all those years ago and who today owns 3D TV?

I don't get this as I have said they are hardly any dearer! Yes there is not a lot of content on 4k at the moment...but there will be in the future. So why would anyone buy older technology if they need a new TV now baffles me

That Is a good point. But a good quality 4k tv that will last is a bit more expensive than that.

Totally disagree! They are all made very similar if you pay anymore you will be paying for the brand name...is a Panasonic is only £70 more.

We have the new samsung curved 4k 3d tv and its justified in everyway, we have a 4k upscale Blu ray player and 4K streaming, its actually hard to get used too watching at first as its almost like your TV is a window to whatevef you are watching, and the film "the martian" in 4k 3D was mind blowing!!

I have some 4K content on Kodi now but still not enough to warrant buying a new tv. When my TV is knackered in a few years they will likely all be 4K anyway. As I would never pay for content I will wait until more becomes available on Kodi.

Its all about the spec and the panel you are viewing on .Yes there are cheap 4k tvs but the resolution is poor and so therefore the picture quality.Its about Blacks being black, colours and clarity.Its a man thing and I'm bored of myself right now ha ........ but they are worth buying.You will also need to upgrade your Hd cable and subscribe to Netflix, Amazon ,sky and perhaps a new blueray player.

Exactly you would not buy a new 1080 TV now if your broke.... And before they all shout you need a device to get 4k streaming!! You can get a android box for around 30 quid

I have played that game buying cheap TVs from Tescos, impossible to get parts or replacement remotes for the unnamed brands. For picture quality I prefer Hann Spree. The last telly we bought was a Panasonic smart Tv from Costco. Massive discount and five year concierge warranty swung it. (Along with cash back)

Well I must be in woman mode as I disagree have you honestly gone and looked a different TVs to come to that conclusion? And as I said in post above....just buy a andriod box and no need to subscribe to anything

I'm not talking Tesco own brand the £299.00 is for a digihome and yes it has only been a name for around two years but it is one of the biggest selling TVs at the moment

there nothing special about 4k or uhd, a normal LED tv, you wouldnt notice the difference, even curved is nothing special either in quality.

i repair them daily and you wouldnt really notice the difference between them in picture quality. you can notice the difference between low brands and high brands especially sony screens.

just make sure you buy a LG, SONY, SAMSUNG not the cheaper brands, the cheaper brands generally all have the same cheap boards just the name is different usually.

hisense is also a good chinese brand. to buy. good screens in there tvs.

stay away from cello, seiki, techwood, bush, hitachi, toshiba, sagem, digihome, technikca, polaroid, and all those other cheap brands that are pretty all made by the same factory by the same manufacture. just changed the names and casing. even panasonic is using the cheap boards in most of there tvs.
