"So Tony says we won't beat is is without putting troops on the ground well whose fucking fault is that you slimy lying bastard" I hate to break it to you, but we wont "beat" IS full stop. They are not a country, or an army, that you can bomb, or wipe out, they are an idea, a cult, a religion, a state of mind. They will not surrender, you cannot wage conventional warfare against them. You can kill the fighters on the ground when they are grouped together like in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, but the individuals, or small cells of terrorists will just melt away after each attack in whichever city they target. IS is here to stay.... and around 5% of British muslims agree to some extent with IS's objectives!!

"Great. I'm not expecting any ill-informed rhetoric or emotional outbursts in this thread at all. I always tend to swim against the tide, so I'm just going to say that for all his failings and imperfections - and the build up towards Iraq was certainly one of those - he was still a better PM than Cameron. " do you know what, I'm going to agree with you, he got the blame for taking unreliable council, Gordon brown tried to pin the credit crunch on him saying "I wasn't prime minister when all this started" hmm is that so, what was your job when it all started? Wouldn't happen to be the guy who looks after the money would it

" yeah he was great precided over a government that let in 13 million immigrants in took us into an illegal war which cost hundreds of lives we are still fighting today and he and brown totally ignored warnings about the banks overspending right up until the financial crisis and we are still trying to balance the books today let's give him a medal

Its very easy after an event to run and hang everyone out to dry, but did we the people do enough to stop this at the time? Cough cough I did NOT vote him in The soldiers CANNOT refuse to do there job And unlike some I am not jumping on a bandwagon as I was vocal very vocal signing petitions and joining groups to NOT got to war thankyou think about it?"

But I also didn't agree on the war he got sucked into by sucking up to bush.

"To this day I find it amusing that inspite of Labour and Blair getting in by a significant margin it is almost impossible to find a single die hard, voted Labour all their life supporter who will own up to having voted Blair in. Someone did, but I guess we all have our dirty little secrets. " I've voted labour since 87. Better than the alternative.

So 1.5m people in the strets of London protesting was nothing " he was still voted in after the 'war' so yes despite the opposition he was still elected and Labour still won in 05.. the Tories as the party on the other side of the house would have done exactly the same and never once during that time spoke out in opposition collectively to what went on.. i was there on the march in London and still maintain my position it was a mistake to join in with the USA but they would have gone in without us so in hindsight how different things may have been now is debatable..

"I voted Labour in '97. Have tended to not vote for any of 'em since then (and Green last time, just because I'd prefer they'd got the protest vote rather than UKIP), but in the aftermath of the previous Tory government, Labour back then were a breath of fresh air. It's easy to forget how much I loathed and detested the previous Tory lot, but Cameron and his cronies have made it all too easy to remember that depressing weariness of knowing your leaders couldn't give a shit about you." I tend not to vote because I'm that weird person politically sees good ideas and bad ideas in all the parties but you do realise that statistically the best PM of the last 40 yrs was John Major don't you achieved more in his short time than thatcher Blair or Cameron did or will do in ten

People who "belive" prosperity comes from certain political parties are.. Nuts. Recessions come every 4-7 years regardless of whoever is in power, sometimes you get lucky and your in between, other times you go on a bit and the recession puts and end to your public perception of being gee whiz

By what statistical measure? I often thought Major was a decent(ish) man surrounded by gits. And by 'gits' I mean pustulent slime mimicking human form. Except for the whole Edwina Currie thing I'm much the same though in that I'm not really allied to any one party. I tend to generally believe Labour have more heart but the Tories might have more brain. The best would probably be a fiscally-competent Labour or a genuinely caring Conservatives, but seeing as partisanship generally seems to mean they can't possibly work together, we're stuck with a pendulum between waste and greed. Given the choice though, I'll always choose what looks the most compassionate option. Not sure anyone can honestly look at Cameron's lot and think "Now *there's* a group of people with all our best interests at heart."
