Seeing as the other thread got closed, as it was too big

Rode a 'hilly 50' on Sunday, someones Garmin reported over 3,500 foot of climbing

Not bad!, & still on winter bike too, as roads wet in places

Keeping good bike(s) for definately dry weather

Sounds like a decent ride.

Seriously need to get out more, just invested in a turbo so at least I can keep the legs spinning.

A few decent ones out there

I gave mine away, but it was a basic model, & just went out instead

We have a treadmill, but l can't run on it, too 'artificial', got to be on real surfaces!

On leave week after next (comm 6th), so hope to get some decent rides in - sadly doubt there'll be any naughty kind of rides with a TV though

In fact, l' m leaving house in about 15 minutes

Hope to be out Thursday/Friday

(might ride up to Quest-Leeds on Thursday, for the t-girl afternoon)

Anyone off work, & want to ride Friday?

120 mile in the Essex lanes yesterday, nice little ride. Love riding to new places and unknown roads in a group.

Not about KOM or any segments, just riding with your mates and managing the pace to suit everyone

"just" a sixty miler for me yesterday which included down to Weston super Mare sea front.

My third 55+ mile ride since Tuesday though so I don't feel too lazy and it was a fastest time which I take semi-serious as I ride quite briskly when I go solo but I don't knock myself out.

Do get some padded cycling bin shorts, the dub ones from Wiggle are very good. You will notice a much better cycling experience with good bib shorts. Make sure you don't wear anything else under the shorts tho!

I started out on a 20miler 3 years back, build your self up slowly as you get fitter and better.

Good luck

Does anyone actually wear underwear under their bibs??

Though I must admit I do always carry out a VPL check as I ride up behind the lady cyclists..

As a result of my selfless work I can confirm their are a small minority but not many.

I'm going to allow someone else the pleasure of surveying the male cyclists! I

Is it worth trying one before ordering online ? As like most saddles the fit can be awkward to get right.

I use the old style (1990) pattern Selle-Italia 'Flite' on 4 of my bikes; the Ridley, both Ribbles, & the cyclo-cross bike

In fact, one is an original from 1994, that's passed from bike to bike, & l still consider it the most comfortable saddle that l've used/tried

To be fair, I don't have it particularly badly. I just need more recovery time than most people. Cycling is ideal exercise for me as its low impact - I can't physically run 10yards, wish I could as it would be a lot cheaper!

Now considering treating myself to a power meter - more techy gimmickry!

Hard to say without seeing it, but just like cars, there comes a point where its more cost effective to buy a new one.

Parts are expensive & labour even more so.

Unless you know someone who would fix it up for you?

I had an old sdg bel air saddle on my trek hybrid bike I use to ride around town on and it was the most comfortable saddle I've ever owned by far but I used it to distruction.

I'm currently using a selle on trek and prologo saddles on my road bikes which even with padded bibs aren't as comfy as my old sdg.

Only reason I didn't buy a new sdg straight off was because I was given the selle but I'll be buying one for the trek next week and possibly even one for another of my bikes.

Decided that as I've been really going for it lately and out at pretty much every opportunity multiple times a week for 50-60 mile brisk road rides that today was gonna be a day off.

So I spent the afternoon shining in the park and eating Mr. Whippy.

As nice and relaxing it was...I sorta still wish I'd gone out early as normal before slacking off for the afternoon.

Legs were suffering midweek though so I guess they'll benefit from a bit of kinder treatment when I jump back in the saddle.

This.

Sometimes we can get way too obsessive about our hobby, always looking for those new PB's on Strava or notching up those miles we 'need' each week.

Your body needs time to recover (as ive found out) and you occasionally need to reset your head.

Off to the Boot Beer Festival in the Lakes this weekend without any bikes (a first for me) to relax.

It's on cycle scheme so can pay it monthly. I've not ridden for the past 4 years but so looking forward to heading out and about again and trying to get up to about 100 miles a week just to keep the weight off and so I can exercise without impact on my joint .

"What's the fastest speed anyone's recorded going downhill?

56MPH

descending, Otley Chevin

It's over 3/4 mile at circa 1-in- 10 (as an average)

This was a few years ago, when surface was better (& l was braver)

Measured with an Acocet 40 (if anyone remembers those?)

Far more accurate than any GPS, as they were set to wheel/tyre size ( to a couple of inches per mile)

There's a descent out of Brum on the Hagley road where I used to nudge 50mph. Straight dual carriageway so was safe to let rip and other roads around Hagley far more technical descents I was doing not much slower

All time fastest was a descent in tbe cotswolds, didn't have a comiter on but those of the group that did all reported 55+

I'm now on the turbo trainer as I'm a bit of a fair weather cyclist. I hate the turbo with a passion but that and the gym mean hitting the road in spring isn't as hard.

Signed up for a few big events next year including Vattenrunden in Sweden and the Revolve 24 hour at Brands Hatch

Just East of Wakefield

Just short of that time

Down through Calder Grove, up Bull Cliffe, over Midgley roundabout, down into Clayton West/Scissett

Through Denby Dale, up the long drag to 'Sovereign Crossroads'

Over into New Mills

Into Holmfirth

Long drag to, & climb of HolmeMoss

Left at the bottom, onto Woodhead Pass (A629)

Back into Penistone

Follow into Barnsley (with a quiet section, going via Oxspring)

Back to Wakefield, via A61

Very much a constant effort ride, & a sharp headwind at points (top of Woodhead was very windy!!!)

Just getting over a cold so it was a gentle canal side ride on my cyclo cross bike yesterday, was bloody cold though & the canal was frozen over!,quite a few fishermen out who had to break the ice in order to cast out.

on my return after riding outbound for just over an hour i caught 3 others on mountain bikes then as we got to a squeeze point at a lock a group of 14 on mountain bikes caught us so it was one hell of a line up back!,dont think the fishermen were pleased as the line thundered by!.

"Anyone use the strava app"

Not personally, when l'm on the bike, my most complex electronic device is my watch

Tried Dl2, interesting, but happy on cabled Ultegra 11, on my best bike

Of those l know, who use Strava, be it on bike (or running) some almost obsess over it

Their time on the bike is about beating someone, to try & claim a segment

Conversely, I also know riders who do use it as a training supplement, but they are generally quite decent standard triathletes

Riding home, earlier this week in the fog was interesting, & added another dimension to it

Aural acuity becomes more important than normal, how the hell people ride with headphones is beyond me!!!

Can't believe I've never heard of this ride.. It looks a good day out.

I've already started fundraising for a ride in July otherwise I'd do it for this one for a change.

Tho I am contemplating just paying the entry and doing the ride for the fun of it if I get the chance.

"Cables "

Your bum gets used to the use of different muscles, quite quickly.

Make sure you're setup (position) as well as possible.

Other point to consider, is that female specific saddles, are short in point - wider in width, for pelvic structure, differences.

Male saddles, are long and usually narrower.

Changing saddle for one specific to you, can be one of the best investments, before you damage your foof !

Arse pain is the worst! But it does get better, sometimes it can be about position, make sure your saddle is high enough. So your wait is supported on feet, bum and arms.

who said it was?"

Well... You did. Unless you were riding a motorcycle in a limit of at least 40mph where there were "cars and everything" traveling far below the legal limit.

Here's the e- bike rules from www.gov.uk/electric-bike-rules

Notice how it says the motor can not assist you over 15.5mph..

In Great Britain, if you’re 14 or over you don’t need a licence to ride electric bikes that meet certain requirements, and they don’t need to be registered, taxed or insured.

Electric bikes meeting the requirements are called ‘electrically assisted pedal cycles’ (EAPCs). They can have two or more wheels (for example, bicycles or tricycles).

EAPC requirements

The requirements are:

the bike must have pedals that can be used to propel it

the electric motor shouldn’t be able to propel the bike when it’s travelling more than 15.5mph

the motor shouldn’t have a maximum power output of more than 250 watts

It must also display one item from each of the following:

the power output or manufacturer of the motor

the battery’s voltage or maximum speed of the bike

Where you can ride an EAPC

If a bike meets the EAPC requirements it’s classed as a normal pedal bike. This means you can ride it on cycle paths and anywhere else pedal bikes are allowed.

Other kinds of electric bike

Any electric bike that doesn’t meet the EAPC rules needs to be registered and taxed. You’ll need a driving licence to ride one and you must wear a crash helmet.

No

Was happy with 8-speed for quite a few years, but eventually went to 10, in (oddly!) 2010

Both of my work/commute/general purpose bikes are Tiagra 10-speed (newest is hydro-disc)

My 'best-bike' is Ultegra 11-speed (its predecessor; a Ridley, is Ultegra 10)

Sorry for your loss....

Does your foof need kissing better...?

Up to 20.5 miles now. Next weekend ride will be 36.

I know it's nothing compared to you lot, but I'm pleased with progess. Started with a 2.4 miler 3 weeks ago.

Bought a second hand hibred off a mate yesterday... A Claude Butler? Got some snazzy gear levers on it! Just off to try it out on a little loop before I think about cycling to work a few days next week.

Well I'm back.... Slight error of mot putting my helmet on made me turn back before I left the village

8 miles in just under 40 mins. Not setting the roads on fire I know but my first ride I did 6 miles on a similar time so I'm happy with that.

Well done Evie.

31.3 miles for me today. Not quite the 36 I hoped for but it'll have to do.

Almost far enough to make it to Evesham!

Would you like a partner to ride from Cheltenham to Evesham?

by the seaside

I have been cycling a lot just lately averaging 30 miles each ride. Rode 45 miles to Lincoln from north Nottingham on Saturday for a bit of a challenge. Took me 3 hours and 46 minutes, not bad to say I was on my mountain bike with knobbly tyres and not a proper road bike.

Silly question, but have you tried loosening your trainers? I use to get pins and needles in my toes when I use to run as my feet would swell a bit.
