Brighton - even Hove!

It might be excitement! What are you particularly worried about?

Hi im always nervous when i go on holiday, ive travelled all over the world but now have a fear of flying. Not sure if that is your problem

I go to my doctor 2 amatryptaline. Excuse spelling usually helps calm me enough to travel. Doctor will help

Happens to me every now and again in big crowds or train journeys.

I try and have a 'fuck it' attitude and say to myself that no one's bothered about me or looking at me so just get on with whatever you're doing.

Deep breathes help and so does keeping an eye on your heart rate.

I play a game every now and again to see if i can bring it down.

What are you nervous about, the journey, being away from home?

I've used Rescue Remedy in the past to take the edge off nerves, kids for flying & for me to keep calm sitting next to them whilst they bickered for a couple of hours...

Pretend you're in a film and just acting the part of someone getting on a plane. But pkay the part of a happy holiday-maker not a suspicious drug mule.

Above all else, do not go to the bar to "calm" your nerves

Play a mental game about your fellow passengers; guess what they do in real life, or imagine them without any clothes on - the hot ones of course

Distraction is the name of the game

It's not at all. I know.

You get better at it the more you have practice.

The other thing I do when i get anxiety outdoors is to just go with it and ride it out until it goes away and the nerves start to settle again.

Physiologically excitement and anxiety are said to be the same. If so it is simply how we frame the experience and feelings that determines whether it is positive or negative.

How do your nerves manifest themselves? With me it's extreme nausea, to the point of actually being sick. I have Stemetil tablets to combat this, and normally just carrying a couple around with me is sufficient.

Good luck

I understand from your list you are not going alone? Have you told the people you are going with how you feel? They should support you.

Try distracting yourself from the journey.

Have you got a favourite book you can read? Or some music? Or games on your phone/ iPad ? Nothing too difficult, you don't want to raise anxiety levels, but something time- consuming

I used to be scared of flying, this is what worked for me. try watching the flight attendants. you'll see that they are calm. then think to yourself, there's nothing wrong because the flight attendants are calm.

The noises, the cabin pressure and all the bumps are normal.

Plan your journey well, even make it a game,(i use the timer on my phone to try and guess how long the journey will last,). buy loads to read on the plane. Get yourself a good pair of headphones, Sony do a really good pair for 20 quid. watch a film or listen to your favourite music on your phone with the volume up to block the sounds out. As soon as the seatbelt light goes out put your headphones on and chill out to your funky vibes.

Take your favourite sweets! mmmm lovely!

Visit your doctor and explain your fear. Don't drink alcohol. Just drink water before you leave, that way you won't be busting for a pee on the plane and when you land you'll feel like a spring chicken.

P.s. Anxiety is normal, everyone thinks silly things before you board.

Hope this helps.

Sky X

Grounding..

Take slow breaths and look around

Find 5 things you can see

4 things you can touch

3 things you can hear

2 things you can smell

1 thing you can taste

Keep the breathing slow and steady, concentrate on getting it rhythmic

While tablets are hardly the cure (there you are making a lot of progress from the looks of it) they may just help you enough from having a full on panic attack. Some things you will need your doctor to prescribe but other things like Chlorphenamine (allergy tablet) will make you a bit drowsy and whereas more heavy duty stuff like Diazepam may be needed to stop you from freaking out. It is worth having a chat to your GP and asking him or her for some advice. If you have a good GP they will be able to help you whether it is in the form of a prescription or just some reassurance.

Enjoy your holidays!

little house on the praire

Yes op i can tell you what works for me. Its only the last two years i can travel alone. Couldnt even get on a bus

I check my route. So if i was going to benedorm. Id check out the airport note key points like shops, toilets, exits etc.

Dont panic, i know that sounds easy but have plenty of water, cooling wipes, cooling sprays.

Get yourself comfortable on the plane so your relaxed and can breathe easily.

The fact your planning your trip says how far youve come. Im not quite at tbat stage but i can go over the uk.

My personal achievement was going across london by tube in rush hour that proved it for me.

Enjoy your holiday

Up on them there hills

One option is look for a registered NLP practitioner, there is a very simple and effective phobia cure. Might be a little overkill (so to speak) however if done properly is extremely effective.
