Hi there, I have been asked to get a slide projector for a local group and I have no idea what to look for. Can anyone give any tips on what to look for. It is something I have never ever had to get lol...

Bloody hell.

Typically 35mm was the standard size if I recall. You can get them off eBay - there was a Leica secondhand for £45. Typically they had carousels or magazines to load the slides in, plus very expensive filament bulbs which had to fully cool down after use or they would pop.

perhaps see if you can borrow one from a local school, maybe?

Yes it would be so much easier but it is Afro a local history society. Firstly some of the speakers are stuck in the past and want to use a slide projector and secondly although a have a slide digitiser they are very unlikely to let me make any copies of their photos. They are very protective over them. Personally I would digitise them and stick em on a power point presentation. So I have to locate one lol.

Ask another group locally. Most have one, or access to one

My mom has just become chair person of a local history society. Some of the speakers who come along bring slides. If we are lucky they bring a slide projector along but some bring slides and expect one to be supplied. I have a slide digitiser but some are so so so protective over their slides the fact of someone digitising them is not good. Either because they will believe that the bright light in the scanner will melt them (even though a slide projector is hotter) or that they will use them in future presentations or something. So going to try and locate one. I have till September to locate one.

That is an option but I do not like depending on others, so if I have one then I am happier when needed it will be available..

At this point I'd just tell them "if you wish to use slides you must provide your own slide projector"

Any reason why members of a historic society are not interested in preseving history?

Or is it ourely thier ego in that theyre only important if they're the only ones with these photos.

And the moment they're available to all for free on google they go back to obscurity?
