exercising self control in the car

no, nothing to do with dogging...

seeing the other thread about the price of petrol made me wonder who else has eased off of their throttle especially when on the motorway?

having seen last few fill up's costing +£40 (and its only a 1.4 Fiesta ) has made me exercise self control to limit my speed to between 55-65 even when the road is clear

i car share now with a few friends, we leave our kiddi winks with other friends/family and 4 of us will all pop and do our food shooping in one car,, nice break too

I cant do self control in the car.. I am stuck presently with a boring car..

I miss having a nice sounding car.. and nothing stops me letting the revs go through their range and listening to the glorious sound..

I drive for fun a lot of the time.. I will walk if it is a benefit to me.. but certainly dont use the car any less because of the price.. I just sigh, and dont look at the price as I fill it up anymore..

IF it hits £2 a litre.. I will be a bit put out.. but it will make buying a new v6 or subaru much cheaper to buy to start with.. as they are already plumeting in price.

got m/cycle it cost 17 quid every 3 weeks, buti only go 6 mile to work, 56 mpg

Went for a blast on the bike last night, sod the price of fuel I needed to clear some cobwebs, all at the speed limit and on both wheels of course

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

There`s little opportunity for me to save money on my commute for work but when I`m on a long journey I`m forever shifting into neutral and coasting down hills or if I can see standing traffic some way ahead. Yes, I know it`s illegal because you haven`t got "proper control of the vehicle" and I definately don`t do it with a trailer on.

I have 9 bikes, was out on the zx12r last night, I looked at the VFR but the Devil made me take the Kawasaki out

Wishing id kept the m/bike now!!! Ive cut down on the amount of car trips i make. Am now at the stage of thinking the bus is looking good. By the time petrol used and parking charges are added together. The bus is looking cheaper......

i am thinking of having a gas conversion its £1600 for a straight 6 engine .

think i would have it back in 12 months at 1.30 gallon never mind the higher prices

I'd have to agree with you. Sometimes I will think about the fuel economy but then almost straight after I'll come across a nice bit of road and think to hell with it and have fun

Also try not to look at the cost when filling in up as it is rather annoying when compared to previous prices.

yep I've started walking to work, was a bit difficult when I was 225 miles away but as it is now only 3/4 mile and actually quickeer than the car, I stroll in each morning smelling the sea and hearing it lap against the harbour wall ........ sheer bliss

had a gas transit a year back , 49p a litre....its over 70p now and very soon will be no different to unleaded in price.

dosent matter how hard you try there is always someone waiting for their oppertunity to screw you for your hard earned

I'm wary now of excess stuff in work vehicle and milage averages about £100 per week in fuel .

The mad mobile which i cant bear to part with (does below 20mpg) is now sorn'ed over winter months and on limited milage insurance , i bought a second car as a runabout , cheap to insure and does 53 mpg but only use when i need it .

well as ive always said we need fuel to run our cars no matter what yes agreed its a silly price which unless you give up using your car you have no choice but to pay.

we have just gone from a petrol 2 litre sri vectra which wasnt too bad mpg wise to a diesel 3 litre bmw 530d msport which has rubbish mpg around town which we do most lol but good on the motorway and ive just had it re-mapped which should mean better fuel economy but my word it shifts now and i have a heavy right foot

fuel? whats that? i visit the fuel station once maybe twice a month depending on mileage... i drive a 1.9 turbo diesel always foot to the floor apart from cold... maybe 500 miles to a full tank which cost about £75 maybe £80 now fuels gone up again oh and for the mathmeticians i have a 60 litre tank x

as a motorcyclist i strongly feel that with the appalling cost of a gallon of petrol nowadays you have to work even harder to squeeze every pennies worth of enjoyment and adrenalin out of each and every gallon. I ride for pleasure, even enjoy my 90 mile round trip to work every day. Money well spent i think.

gotta agree with katie...talking to a car dealer friend and says he can't get enough small cars to sell...but has a few jags, 5&7 series beemers to virtually give away....

me thinks i'm gonna be buying a big car soon

Had a trip up to Aberdeen a few weeks ago, so went to fill it up. Soon decided against the idea once the pump went over £100 and kept going.

Still don't know how much diesel it'll hold.

Last time I went up to Abderdeen in it, it cost £175 in petrol. That's probably arond £250 in new monety

It only gets used localy now and fed £10-£20 at a time.
