It's a comedy show so I wouldn't let it stop me from visiting the area, it's no more a true reflection of Benidorm than Eastenders is a true reflection of what living in East London is.

Ive only been to spain once and to feurtaventura ...

If going abroad i like to see the culture of said country and would never do the beach stuff or the egg and chips stuff.

Not my kind of holiday but i admit....

I actually laughed at some of it last week. a first for me

well i doubt the places it was filmed in are props!! i wasnt really talking about the people

i,m clever enough to work out they are actors but the people in the background werent!! Primarni wearing chavs as far as i could see.

the place however looked an absolute shit hole and i see no difference going there for a hols as going to blackpool apart from a bit of sun!

I went last May and tended to stick to the front and the old town. I was in an all inclusive hotel so tended to stay there until around 10 and then moved on to some local bars.

It was great will be going again real soon.

Could not watch too much of 'Sticky Vicky' though!!!! Did nothing for me lol

They are an embarrassment! Was in a lovely restaurant in Paris and the male half of an English couple asked for tomatoe ketchup in a loud voice. His wife looked stricken but resigned, he of course, thought he was absolutely hilarious.

Then again, my ex-husband goes into Italian restaurants and asks them if they have any hot pepper sauce.

My biggest nightmare would be to be forced to go on a package holiday to somewhere like Benidorm, makes me shiver the thought of it.

Benidorm is set in a proper hotel with tourists. They just section one area of the pool off. The hotel has become very popular since the making of the show.

I base my opinion on what i saw with my own eyes

many on here confirmed it including YOU who actually live there and say yourself that its a complete ass of a place once the brits arrive but then a ton of brits live there too dont they??

As for paying over the odds in this country dont worry your pretty little head about me i can well afford it and if i cant then your neck of the woods would be the last place i would move to.

Cheap drink and cigs as you put it are about as important to me as blowing my nose..lets face it you probably smoke fake cigs anyway but if the basis of your move from this glorious island to that shithole was for cigs,cheap drink and not pay council tax then the only shallow person i can see is YOU!

I've been to Spain several times since 1988...a nice place to visit, not to live for me.

Italy however...

We may be in danger of over-generalisation here. Italy, Spain and so on are big and varied countries.

I overheard a woman on a bus saying she didn't like France. As the conversation with her pal continued it became clear he condemnation was based on one long weekend at Disneyland

I can assure you that since 1988 I've not been to just one part of Spain, but over most of it. My sister has lived in Italy since 1988, so another country I know well.

All things considered, and comparing the two, oh, and being biased, yep, it's Italy!

Benidorm is like many other Holiday destinations...

There are good parts of Benidorm and there are parts you wouldn't go anywhere near, the same goes for my favourite haunt Ibiza.

I wouldn't dream of ever going into San Antonio again, but I have every intention of retiring to the island sooner rather than later.

Look at Jamaica, lovely in a Sandals resort....you try walking around Kingston late at night....or in the day come to that!

Have to admit though....I too avoid areas that British holidaymakers hang around, I find the Dutch and Italians are better to socilaise with in Ibiza.

it is a shithole when the brits arrive according to him i just think it looks that way every time i have seen it on tv,holiday programs,youtube etc etc

well i can tell ya one thing im no chav but i enjoy benidorm, and why just benidorm is everywhere not the same when brits arrive, i have seen worse on tv than benidorm, one tv programe rings a bell its about parents that follow there kids on holiday because they want to see how they would get on !!!!

Iwas born in leeds, so yes i know it, lived in the uk for more years than you have been alive and got for no other reason than Spain is a much better place to live, love the uk as a place countryside etc its been ruined over the years by lots of things, the government being a major part.

As for racism wondered if you might use the old card some where along the thread, not in the least i have many good friends who are black in both the uk and here, but then again your not black so why should you have to worry.

Not at all and we are all entitled to our own opinions, mine are based on fact, the fact that i live in spain not based on hear say or a two week holiday so to me my opinion is right or i would change it, dont expect everyone to have the same opinion or you lot would all live here too, just when things start to get personal as they have between us and the op who started the thread then its time to call a halt for it, saves some other no mark jumping on the band wagon
