"Don't get me wrong I don't mind them. But it seems like they don't want to make fresh films. They are some great books out there that will be great to be made into a film. But it's comic ones or remaking the classic film and making them crap. But that's my say ![]() ![]() The Jason Bourne films were based on books, and a new one out this year, with Matt Damon back as Bourne Book rights are always being bought up by the film studios, with a view to making that next big franchise

"A good point, but what if it misrepresents the comic? Constantine and Wanted were nothing like the much better comics." its only the same as a film ruining a good book - but not everybody reads them and they might enjoy the film - if it bothers you stick to reading comics

"I'm pragmatic about it. It's gonna keep happening because comics are a gold mine of ideas The thing about Marvels success, is that they have a good team behind them, who clearly had and have a strategy.. people who actually understand comics and love and respect them..that's the key " But not the main audience for the films....which frankly are getting so mega tedious now.

"Hollywood will start on anime and manga next, it's either that or keep making remakes of successful films from the 80s. Obviously I'd love to see a big budget live action version of death note (the Japanese one was poorly lacking in my opinion) but no matter how much money they throw at it, it's still going to be produced for American tastes, I thought no the only thing I my that would be successful is rwby because it's an American writer" Still awaiting live action of Akira...ohh must be at least 10-15 years now!! ![]()

Book version would have been so good!

"I suppose l should not be so judgmental. Reading this thread so many good comics so little time to read them. At least they will never make a live action version of Crossed lol." I am definately going to go next week ![]()

"I would pay to see a live action version of Crossed, though they would never be able to catch the same off the wall lunacy and gut wrenching violence that characterised the series. And in a way that's kinda why I'm against the Preacher to series, as from looking at the trailer it doesn't capture any of what made the comic series so good, instead with show runners like Seth Rogan they've simply stripped the show down to it's base of just another supernatural action show, missing all the dark humour, the allusions to the western genre, the wider philosophical discussion that the comic had (in between hedonistic orgies and bulimic religious figures), it was one of the defining comics of my adolescence, I hope I'm wrong, but I don't hold out much hope for it" ![]() ![]() ![]()

" being turned into films or TV series. I have read the plots for Preacher and Powers and my heart dropped. Although l enjoyed Captain America: Civil War 10 heroes do not make a civil war! I did not bother with S V B, the comic it is based on "Injustice " is sheer brilliance. Are we so bereft of imagination we need to see these stories on the screen? " Why do you equate film fans as having no imagination ? It's quite the opposite. Stick to your comics if you are that narrow in your appreciation of arts, however films are simply a different genre or medium or experience. How would you feel if 'your' comics were performed on stage in a theatre ? What makes you think you have more imagination because you look at still pictures and read the text ? What makes you assume that what you imagine as you read them is exactly the same as everyone else imagines when they read them ? Cinema REQUIRES imagination. Personally i find it a more adult pass time and far more sociable than comics.

There was Kickstarter set up by Garth Ennis to make a live action Crossed Internet TV show, not sure what happened to that. I'm a comic book fan, but I've had enough of the movies and TV shows. I'd like to go watch something original as opposed to a reboot/remake or an adaptation

"OP, is it that you object to comic book stories in general being adapted for film and a belief that the films should feature known characters with original story-lines? In some sense that would be shame, there's 50 years of excellent stories and material to draw upon. In fact there is a counterpoint to say that translating stories held in high regard from page to screen would give us more Iron Man quality plots and far less Iron Man 3 quality plots (or Iron Man 2) I guess you could also view each as its own entity, the comic universe & the movie universe, drawing elements from each other but that they should never imitate the others form. It also works well when translating books to film (and vice versa). I think they worst thing is when they take a quality story (Ultron) and change it into a please facsimile of itself (Age of Ultron) and are then surprised at the complaint when trying to pass it off as an adaptation of the source material." This covers one of my concerns l don't mind if they don't stay true to the story as long as they are true to the spirit. Sin City was excellent Bullet to the Head dire

Personally i find it a more adult pass time and far more sociable than comics. " I was in no way dissing film fans or film as a medium of enjoyment, you will find many comic fans are film fans. Last year l trecked up to the BFI for the Marilyn Monroe season. I have just bought Cronenberg's Videodrome today The lack of imagination was aimed at comic readers and film studios and not film fans. It is a shame you equate comics with immaturity and can only suggest you read up on Joe Sacco's Palestine (whether or not you agree with the politics), Brian Talbot's The Tale of One Bad Rat, Art Spiegelman's Maus or Torso by Bendis and Andreko. As for sociability I would bet a comic con against a film forum. But l do not see why appreciation of art needs to be divisive.
