To be honest, those declaring themselves on this list would not persuade me to vote 'For' or 'Against' so therefore it is an irrelevance.

ps. Some may be twats but that makes no difference to the argument as for me they say nothing of substance that could influence the debate.

I have to admit that this aspect of the average (not all of course) Brexiteer is one of the things steering me toward the "in" camp.

I don't see the need to deride, anuse or belittle anyone over their views on the referendom but this seems to be almost the corner stone of the Brexit campaign.

The only thing more pointless than this thread are the comments made against it. It's clear there is no intellectual argument, just an attack on people voicing their opinion collectively.

Argumentum ad hominem.

The poster has done what they aimed to achieve and that is get a rise out of you.

And yes I'm an out voter and base my reasons on sound logic, negative comments from negative people render their opinions moot.

Ian Botham and Sol Campbell want to leave the EU and support Brexit. I don't think they've joined together with 200 odd other sports people/celebrities to put an article in a newspaper about their view though.

lets put this into context as to why a lot of people in the arts want to stay in....

there is an EU arm for the arts called "creative europe"... which gives out grants to UK and european arts and culture projects....

last year "creative europe" gave uk artists just over 12 million pounds in EU funding for hundreds of different projects.....

so.... ever heard of the film "slumdog millionaire"

it was partly funded using money from their very source..........

and ironically so was the margaret thatcher biopic "the iron lady" featuring meryl streep........

okay.... now that puts a bit on context... you can all go back to calling people twats now.........

Some people seem to have such black and white preconceptions about the use of the word twat.....

But here's the thing....

You can have .....

A decent twat

A clever twat

A good looking twat

A funny twat

A talented twat

A creative twat

A thick twat

A irritating twat

A belligerent twat

A awkward twat

A twat who can't see that the word twat can mean many-many things some of which may or may not be complimentary

Oh and lets not forget that a bunch of twats can be an eclectic mix of people to be either admired or despised or indeed encompass nothing of great relevance at all....

PS the above list is not exhaustive or cast in stone...

I called dib's on irritating twat so you lot can fight over the rest or simply make up your own version.......

oh i do..... but the problem is that it hasn't always been in the govt best interest to put the money in the same places the EU puts the money....

you don't live in the north east.....if it wasn't for a lot of eu money Newcastle city centre would not be regenerated like it is, gateshead actually would not have places like the sage and the baltic art gallery, nissan wouldn't have likely taken a punt on sunderland as a car base, the hitachi train factory building the next generation of uk high speed trains would likely not be in newton aycliffe......

all of those have been aided by EU money....

and i could go on....

you assume that none of that would have happened if we hadn't joined the EU. You also ignore the decimation of the British fishing industry because of EU policy.

The USA has just announced a 522% tarrif on Chinese steel. Something we can't do because of EU regulations.

You also ignore the fact that the Nissan plant was built in the northeast rather than France because of the restrictive Labour laws.

You dont get to determine how our own govt spends your dosh lol.

All this talk about the lack of democracy in the EU is laughable....why dont you try and make our country more 'democratic'? How many parties actually keep their election promises? The country is actually run by civil servants...who just like the EU civil servants...are not elected.......lets all leave the UK

While we are in the EU now the Ford Transit plant in Southampton upped sticks and moved production to Turkey (outside the EU) in 2013 to cut costs. Production of the ford Transit van has now stopped at Southampton. I don't buy this idea that the EU protects jobs. The Ford Transit story blows that notion out of the water.

I can guarantee the uk put in far more than it got out. All of which is irrelevant to Newcastle. Lets face it, you can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear.

I'm in the undecided camp as there are pros and cons either way. The only certainty is no one knows what the outcome will be either way. But for anyone to say the EU benefits the standard person in the street is laughable.

Brussels is full of prople milking our money. We need a government strong enough to take them on. Something we haven't had in decades.

Erm! Fine speech but the North East is a rather large county, who mentioned Newcastle!

I was also talking about Arts Funding not the EU in general, Cumbria and Northumberland cover a vast part of the country!

Just reflecting on my personal experience working with venues and arts/music organisations.
