My mum told me long hair after 25 was bad.

But then she also told me not to suck my thumb, not to go into pubs alone, that having nothing in my freezer other than a bottle of vodka was bad, that I should iron bed linen and not to associate with gentlemen of questionable morality.

I acknowledged her recommendations and adapted them according to my own requirements. My hair, when straightened, is just about at my bra strap. The rest? I'm pleading the fifth!

Just where I need to be.

I don't think there is an age that you shouldn't have long hair. As people get older styles may suit your face better. Some styles may drown the face.Yours looks good op keep it.

Long unstyled hair isn't flattering.

Keep some length and get a modern cut, whatever your age!

My face is too fat for short hair. Mine is usually in a messy bun or low ponytail anyway.

I too have very long hair and was thinking of changing the style a bit but then I think I will only end up growing it again so what's the point

I have promised myself that once I go totally grey then I will get my hair cut, but it doesn't look like its happening anytime soon so I will keep my long tresses for as along as I can, despite nearing 60

I'm the same. My friends convinced me to have the chop, so I did. 8 inches off. And mourned it for ages! Now it's down my back again, I'm not going short again.

I love having long hair and don't think it's anyone else's business what you do with it OP

My sister told me a few years ago that I should think about going shorter, what with me getting older. I was about 35

Shorter just doesn't suit me.

But why? You've got lovely hair, it'll still look good long when -or if - you go totally grey.

I had my hair lopped off to shoulder length as I personally think I start to look older as my hair gets longer.... Although I will keep growing my hair to half way down my back again and then whinge I look like a granny... Full circle every time. It's a personal thing not a general thing

For me, women always look better with long hair whatever the age, providing it is well looked after. Also prefer to see it un-dyed on older women.

I'm mid 50s and i have my hair just above my shoulders now.

It's naturally wavy/curly but when it's longer the weight pulls it straighter and i prefer it wavy/curly so i keep it at the length that works best for this

I have had very long and very short hair and every length in between but i have to admit that i think as women get older they do look better with hair no longer than shoulder length but each to their own ... do what makes you happy, that's my motto and it works well for me

I personally think, a trim in a 'choppy' layered style with a little work with straightener would look even better! Classy and sexy.

I have long straight hair (just past shoulders) with a full fringe. When it gets longer I don't feel as good.

Xx

I had a very short pixie cut from late 20's to 40's, grew my hair 4 years ago & it's staying like this for the forseable future.

It all depends on your hair & if it's in good condition to be long as opposed to your age

I agree with that. Lank, stringy hair that needs a good cut doesn't look great at any age.

I suppose I am lucky really as if I get fed up of having long straight hair I can just leave it wavy or put it up...

If I chopped it off Im sure I'd regret it

In my opinion, you have beautiful hair.

Hair length is a personal choice not something that is affected by age.

My Mum had long hair till she died and she was beautiful. And not just because she was my Mum.

I intend to never give in to the middle aged short-sensible-haircut

Op id take it a bit shorter but still past the shoulders and give it a less blunt fringe or even a side fringe to make it a little more modern. Long hair can end up looking frumpy and uncared very easily. Mine is getting that way atm.
