on the road to nowhere in particular

Amy Whitehouse once told me that Beverly Knight was one of the best singers around and Amy had to follow her on stage one night thinking to herself "how do I follow that"

After meeting Beverley a couple of times I can quite honestly say that she is also one of the nicest, loveliest and most genuinely nice people I have ever met.

A thoroughly underrated performer.

Sia has a great voice.

Lana del Rey has a beautiful languid tone to her voice.

Rufus Wainwright has exquisite vocal phrasing.

Marc Almond, especially when live, is a master of storytelling through song.

I've always thought that Skin from Skunk Anansie has one of the most incredible voices, a really pure tone and an unbelievable dynamic range.

The woman makes me cringe, but Celine Dion has a clarity to her voice few can match.

Will Young (don't laugh) has a great live voice, although I find him a bit 'pompous'

Josh Groban singing 'February Song' has a similar effect on me

Emeli Sande is superb live. Had the good fortune to see her at the Ritz in Manchester just before she hit the big time. Support act wasn't too shabby, a young guy by the name Daley, with a superb soulful voice.

Maxwell also another great live artist.

A very under rated singer is Zoe Johnstone who sang vocals on some Faithless tracks.
