The UK Government have recently announced that as of 26th May 2016 - All currently legal Psychoactive Substances will be covered under a new piece of legislation.

Do they really think it'll stop people wanting to get high..cos thats really worked over the last 50 years...

just means a thriving black market,impure products,less control and no tax revenue..stupid wankers lol

That is the irony of the new law. It hasn't actually defined 'psychoactive substances'.

Nutmeg is one, garlic another, along with your obvious synthetic cannaboids etc.

There is no way to police it. It isn't actually going to be illegal to possess it or use it, just sell it.

Quite a few lads have ended up in induced coma's up here and a few major organs have been damaged..

Also causing chaos in prisons and accident and emergency departments..

The problem is that the production of these substances is not regulated for human consumption. Each packet says "Not for human consumption" even though they are packaged for use as if they were psychoactive products for human use. Too many kids have been found dead as a result.

Whether they are regulated or not, these products will remain dangerous as they have not only been produced without an extensive test but also they are often produced in less than clean conditions which give rise to the impurities that often produce these fatal side effects.

....and in case anyone is interested, the counterfeit viagra that is advertised in your junk mail comes from similar factories, therefore even if I wanted to use said product, I wouldn't dream of buying from an unregulated source.

or if you have a bad reaction because u have over done it or mixed it.

having bareback sex is pretty dangerous but its a lifestyle choice .

Legal highs are horrid substances. I've seen people go into seizure, crawl around on all fours barking like a dog, and been kicked in the stomach all by someone who had taken Spice. He'd taken it loads of times before, but that batch went wrong on him.

I'd much rather deal with people who are high on cannabis, they have pretty standard behaviour, they just want cake and peanut butter. Even Cocaine is a much more standard reaction than any legal high shit I've seen.

In prisons legal highs have put more people in hospital in the last 2 years than illegal drugs.

I love tea and will not be altering my approach.

Another example here justifying that we have some of the most stupid and inappropriate people in government. Of course it's not their money that has been and will continue to be wasted in fruitless (fruit loop?) efforts to need taxpayers to pay more tax.

Making it illegal will not stop it, I agree...but there are too many young kids up here taking it! A local medical lab analysed some blood samples and found some legal highs mixed with some serious shit to create greater euphoria and it was this stuff that was causing damage to major organs...its a quick, cheap fix for a lot of kids, it is even finding its way on to psychiatric wards....not what you need there..

This is a very, very poor development and it flies in the face of what is going on elsewhere in the world. By nature, I am a conservative voter, but the governments determination to push this piece of legislation through is challenging my views.

1) Psychoative substances only exist because someone came up with the bright idea of chemically creating the "high" that comes from certain illegal drugs and thereby stopping (mainly) young drug takers from being crminalised.

2) As psychaoctive substances gained popularity, so the number of people making them increased, quality control decreased and as substances got banned one by one, so the replacement became a little more dangerous than what it had replaced.

3) The answer now with this bill is to ban everything unless it is specifically made legal or is already a controlled substance. This goes against the very essence of British Law that asserts we have great freedoms because the law controls only what we can't do and does not start from the position that the government only allows us to do what the government says is legal.

4) The psychoactive substance bill is about to come into effect and its purpose is to control substances that only exist because the very much safer drugs that they mimick are illegal.

5) The end result is that the Government has taken the view that psychoactive substances are a problem that is similar to the drug problem and rather than deal with both problems in a logical way they have outsourced the problem to criminals.

I sincerely hope that whoever wins the next election they have the common sense to deal with the use and abuse of all of the substances in our society in a way that is based on evidence and harm. We do not need overbearing law on top of overbearing law in order to treat a problem that only exists because of already daft laws.

It Might save a few lives if you can't buy it over a shop counter though. They don't want reVenue they want them off the street. It cost the NHS millions every year with these idiots.

It won't. It will just create a new generation of dealers. People with a bit of savvy, buying it over the internet and selling it on. Less control, more problems. Same as what happened when illegal drugs were created.

You are making the mistake of judging everyone else by your standards. Try judging people by their own standards, rather than yours.

Just because you dont feel the need to drink alcohol, smoke a ciggy or do anything else to relax/alter your mid/state does not mean that others shouldn't.

And therein you have encapsulated the problem. Your chosen substance was identified in Lancet as being the most dangerous mind altering drug available, but paradoxically it is legal and therefore quality controls exist in its manufacturing and distribution.

The argument is that no Government should wilfully put its citizens in harms way by outsourcing a social problem to the criminal world by introducing Prohibition of any kind of mind altering substance.
