" Even at 500,000 people that is a security bill of about £24 per person....the office of the Mayor of London told the Evening Standard newspaper that they expect upwards of an extra £60 million to be spent by visitors to London over that Three day period. Can you see now how this is a financial golden egg for Hotels, Restaurants, Cafes etc. in London? Money well spent then" Or put another way, the public purse takes the losses while the profits are privatised. If its going to be that much of a windfall for london businesses then why don't they foot the bill?

" Who said the taxpayer is paying for it?" It's invariably the taxpayer who gets it in the neck. Same last year when the Chief Liar popped over from Rome for a wee holiday. All sorts of promises were made, and broken, about who'd be paying for what.

" Can you see now how this is a financial golden egg for Hotels, Restaurants, Cafes etc. in London? Money well spent then" You have to wonder just how much of that alleged windfall actually stays in the UK. PS. It ain't just this wedding - they'll be trotting out the same nonsense to justify the cost of London 2012 and I fully expect Glasgow 2014 will try the same crap.

"Could not put it any better than _obleton. None of the money profited in London will benefit anyone, except those businesses and organisations. Yet we'll all pay for our supposed 'betters' to get married, because they are apparantly appointed by a God somewhere. It'd be better if they got married in a registry office, we can't afford all thise shite a s a nation. Better still if we were a Republic. " The Royal family cost every taxpayer 62p in the last financial year.....you over estimate the costs of having a Royal family I think. And the people who work for those businesses in London that benefit from the influx of tourists will by default themselves benefit by way of wages and overtime during the wedding weekend.

"Day to day security in the UK would be a lot less if we had not got involved in Bush's 'War on Terror', wasn't that really to do with making money, oil, capitalism, the West's dominance? Yet petrol is at £1.30 and set to get even higher. That one really worked out well... Was it worth invading Iraq and Afghaninistan? Have we as a country benefited in any way? Has anyone but arms dealers and oil barons made a ny money? And s the actually democracy out there? No, there isn't even democracy here. Why should anyone believe the Royal Wedding will be of any real benefit to anyone. And why do they need security? Becuase as a nation we're really unhappy, disillusioned, divided, desparate, etc. Tackle the root cause, reform. Don't just invest in what is already a Police state, we all saw the student riots. " And that has exactly what to do with the Royal Wedding? Am I missing something here?

" 62p per taxpayer in the uk is that all lol..........thats 62p to much as why should we pay anything to keep them in there lavish life style whilst the majority of families in this country who genuinly need financial help to survive get next to sod all if anything at all that is,its a disgrace in my eyes,i say bang all the royals on jobseekers allowance, show them a bit of the real uk!!!!!

" London has by far the highest business rates in the country, so you will find that London businesses not only benefit from the largest proportion of tourists anywhere in the UK....but pay greatly towards day to day security and policing of those tourists and visitors to the capital." Please...DON'T remind me! I pay a fortune for the "honour" of living in London. I doubt I'll get a concessionary Olympic ticket though by way of a thank you!

"Lets put it another way that might make some sense.... London's Overseas Tourist total spend was around £8.9 Billion in 2009....or over 60% of the total Overseas Tourist spend in the UK. The fact is that Overseas tourists will spend over £1 Billion in London during the month of the Royal Wedding, and a big part of that is because of our Royal Family, love them or hate them, they are a big attraction to Overseas Tourists and generate far far more than they will ever cost the UK taxpayer. We all benefit from that in one way or another" father christmas is a big attraction in the trafford centre as young children are lead to believe he does all these good things for us when infact we all know its not true, your point about overseas visitors coming to this country for the royal family is kinda the same as the visitors are lead to believe all these good things about the royals! its us poor sods who have to pay for them that know they actually do sod all! the point in my OP was why should we be paying for this lavish wedding when the country is on its arse surely the money would be better spent elsewhere, like on the people who actually need it,they should be ashamed the whole lot of them!!!!

Small change" so....25% of the cost of security is being funded by the armed forces....11'000 service jobs being cut because of the hole in the budget. now, you ask those men that are facing redundancy if they're happy to support the royal wedding when they're looking at unemployment at a time when there are no jobs. you talk about this creating jobs...hardly, a one day event?! the most it will create is overtime. a 1/4 of £20m is quite a few service personell not facing redundancy.

" People come to the UK for history and culture, nobody meets the bloody Queen. " I have met the queen on 3 seperate occassions.. once as a baby.. she said I was adorable, then realised my nappy was soaked. ( mum and dad had been waiting for hours to meet them ) Once at a concert at the royal albert hall.. schools prom type thing.. she came to shake all our hands as we had played solos.. Last time was during a big girl guide event... I think that the royal family are a bit part of being British and am looking forward to the Royal Wedding.. Its better than some of the other rubbish money gets wasted on.. and if its anything like the last big royal wedding, the street parties will be a great event. I think more should be done to support the Royal family.. and I see it as that is our Next King and Queen. At least both are pretty modern.. And yes I am a Royalist.. and still find it shocking that children are not taught the National Anthem at school... or more about the royal family. Katie. x

"OK.....£5 million cost of putting Armed forces on the streets for the day... It costs around £17 million a day to keep our armed forces in Afghanistan....EVERY day. When you look at the bigger picture the cost to the taxpayer for this wedding is a drop in the ocean." seriously....you're comparing our presence afghanistan with the royal wedding?? if you want to do that...consider our recent announcement about going into libya too...surely the fact it costs so much gives more cause to not using their funds for something so frivolous?
