If we were not meant to eat meat we would not have been given incisors. Our teeth would be molars for grinding rather than biting.

However you chose to live your life, is up to you. But there is no need to insult we who chose to eat meat

I have always been an "Each to their own" kinda person, I don't really care what anyones else does...Vegetarian, Vegan, Smoker, Drug Taker....

But I do have a problem with people who try to force their own ideals upon me, and that is the big difference....us meat eaters wouldn't dream of forcing our carniverous ideals on Vegans....but they will insist on forcing their ideals upon us.

Good luck to anyone who chooses the Vegan lifestyle....but please don't bother preaching to me or I will feel inclined to bash you with a slow cooked leg of lamb.

Murder means homicide. Homicide means the killing of one human by another human.

Slaughtering animals legally for food is not murder.

Eating animal flesh is not illegal. Not eating it is choice.

I fully accept your choice, please accept mine because it isn't going to be swayed by anything declared on a forum.

Yes its an open forum. But what has this (in any way shape or form) got to do with swinging?

I eat meat. I hunt it, kill it and cook it. I also respect where it has come from.

Personally on a swingers site, I would prefer to talk sex related things though.

This is an open forum and as such anyone can give their opinions.

I have many friends who are vegetarians and knew one guy who was vegan, to the extent he would only drink certain beers and spirits that he knew had none been made with animal finings.

But not one of them tries to tell me that meat is murder.

I respect their stand on things and they respect mine

Mabye a poor choice of words OP..

I eat meat ...however I try and source the meat according to my _iews on animal welfare ...a degree of freedom to live like a wild thang and slaughtered locally ...and the farms husbandry is without question ...

I fear tho especially in these cash strapped times ....cheap chicken is here to stay ..and a popular choice ..there tis ...it won`t change anytime soon ...

Just googled this and got this part of an artical written about feeding a dog a vegi diet .....Our dogs are closely affiliated genetically to their ancestors, wolves, and they are one of the few true carnivores that exist in the animal planet. Meat makes up a significant portion of their diet and is a hugely important element that is not advisable to be left out totally. Proteins offer by meat are usually too difficult to replace with vegetables and fruits.

While some claims have been made for dogs being able to thrive on diets that consist primarily of tofu that provide plenty of vegetable matter protein. That protein is not high quality enough to be metabolized by your dog. In fact, fresh fruits and vegetables snacks are often recommended for dogs that must lose weight only because these vegetable base snacks add very few calories to your dog's system.

Fair enough ....thats an opinion tho ..with some sage advice tho ....regards the diet thays important fer yer dog ...

Its a fact that dogs are not an obligate carnivore ....kinda means ...meat or bust ....if that was so then dogs wouldn`t have the digestive tract and enzymes capable of an omniverous diet ...

I used to have a friend who was vegan. Unfortunately she was feeding her young child a vegan diet. This child was under 2 years old at the time.

My friend was taking her child backwards and forward to the doctors because the child was having stomach problems and not growing properly.

At first I thought this was a good idea because she could get help from the dietician. Until one day she mentioned that she had NOT told the doctor the child was on a vegan diet.

By the time the child was 2 years old she was severly under developed and not hitting any of the developmental targets. The child was constantly listless and miserable.

However my friend would not listen to any of her friends or family.

Eventually the doctors took the child into hospital did some tests and diagnosed severe malnutrition.

My friends child ended up in care for Neglect.

While I say to every adult your choice is your choice. I dont believe children should follow a vegan diet.

Vegetarian diets possibly if it is balanced

by not eating meat we would be putting ourselves at risk from all sorts of illnesses..i have a B12 deficiency but am not veggie. imagine if i was tho id be sooo week. every time i see a new doc its the first thing they ask me. unless we are living on supplements then our body actually needs meat. each to there own and that but the ones that eat veggie meat are as much as saying they miss it..

Can anyone think of an animal that we eat that also eats other animals?

Can only think of fish, if they are classed as animals.

I know pigs will eat anything if it is mashed up, but they aren't meat eaters as such.

So can only come to the conclusion that Vegans are food, as all vege eating animals are prey to other animals.

"

i heard that before but wasnt sure if it was true or not i think not eating meat etc can cause chrones( i think thats how its spelt)"

Crohn's, Nope I have it and it is an autoimmune condition that is [thought to be] genetic, but like asthma most likely triggered/activated by environmental conditions. There was some speculation that it could related to Johne's disease which is similar condition in cows.

Interestingly they have found a cross genetic link with certain type of diabetics, both are where the immune system attacks the body.

What you may be thinking is that people with Crohn's are usually on a low residue diet (low fibre) thus low in veg/fruit as these can cause pain when passing through damaged parts of the gut.

Humans are omnivores and designed to eat some meat, hence why we have a quite long small intestine and not so much for [raw] vegetables, otherwise we'd have more than one stomach to re-process the veg, hence chew the cud saying about cows.

Meat [fish] is high in protein which is highly suspected in helping us develop our large brains, which are very energy hungry.

Anyhow we do eat far to much red meat in the west, typically only a couple of times a week at most.

A friend of mine is a vegetarian but eats fish because "they don't have souls"

A friend of a friend was a strict vegan and wouldn't take some supplements or other medication because it had colourings derived from animals. My opinion is if you get that extreme, might as well top yourself and become food for worms, since just breathing is probably causing something to suffer somewhere!

I eat very little meat and if i do i make damn sure its from a free range and organic background.

If we are going to eat it, we owe it to the animal to make sure its had a bloody good life and be willing to pay more for good quality.

Not this vac packed cheapo stuff from supermarkets .

Saying that...It wouldnt take a lot to make me completely veggie

I think synthetic meat grown in a vat by bacteria will be a possibility in the next 10-20 years. They even have this working in the lab at the moment, that is if you can call a protein mush meat!

I would stop eating "real" meat if that became a reality, although we'd have to say goodbye to most livestock as there would be no reason to keep them around.

Quick question. Why are there vegetarian sausages, burgers, bacon and the like? Surely carrot shaped carrots are fine, or is it some in built instinct for that nice meaty taste? *shrugs*

Water, protein, fat and carbs.

Simples!

So pretty much like Tufo then, although the latter can cause problems for women if eating a lot of it.

Bit of philosophical dilemma, if people didn't eat meat then how many billions of animals would never have existed?

I don't think intensive farming of animals is a good thing and should be changed, but that requires less people or people to eat less protein rich foods (meat). Or the cost of humane rearing to come down, but that requires lots more land which is the antithesis of lower costs.

Lots of families cannot afford the luxury of free range and organic meat and poultry though....particularly in this day and age.

Saw a report in the Economist the other week that said that the organic sector in particular is in free fall with the decline in sales, there is a recession on and many people can't afford to be too fussy where their chicken comes from.

What I can't understand is all the research you'd obviously need to do before buying or using absolutely anything to ensure that there hasn't been anything from any animal at any time in the research and development, manufacturing process, the list must be endless. It's just not practical to me at all, although lots of animal testing has now stopped there are still products on the market that came about as a result of that testing. Would a vegan sit on a leather sofa for example, oh - now my heads hurting! Z

Yeah I agree in an ideal world, but as I pointed out previously as things stand that is impractical with the number of people on the planet and the actual cost of rearing animals in that way.

As China has become more wealthy, (wealthy is a relative term here, a lot of the world is on or around the dollar a day mark) they are eating more meat, as it is a dense source of protein and energy. In a society where strong and healthy means you can get ahead that is important.

Only in really wealthy countries do we have the opportunity to eat humanely reared meat, or become completely veggie. (Supplements or meat simulacra are a "luxury" good). The short of it is food production is on an industrial scale and so has all the problems associated with that. .

A good start would be people eating less (only what they need, not what their bellies want) and thinking about a more equal society (that's the point of taxes btw).

Anyhow I would recommend reading Larry Nivens "Bordered in Black", (N-Space collection) which is a short sci-fi story and not hard sci-fi, but has quite a poignant message that fits this thread quite nicely!

They used to supply anyone and everyone with fresh veg and fruit.

They also kept there own chickens, re fresh eggs and killed said chicken when needed.

One grandad even had pigs and a goat.

The only thing my nan had to buy was flour and lard and whats she called titbits.

Have you heard about those mega dairy farms in the US that are on their way over to the UK this is milk production on a grand scale. Running 24 hours a day, seven days a week, each of the 5,000 in the herd will pass through three times in 24 hours, producing 190,000 litres (41794 gallons) of milk a day. Will fource the smaller dairy farmers here out of buissness
