When you didn't like pretty much everyone!

Should I go?

My thirty year reunion is in a few weeks and I'm tempted to go to put all those crap memories to rest.

I was bullied as an effeminate child. They didn't know I was bi. They didn't know I was transsexual. It was an intolerant time and I was acting very defensively.

I had only a couple of friends and I only ever had one girlfriend.

Everyone else seemed to enjoy giving me grief. I hated them all for years.

Now I've come out and I'm happy with myself I just think I might go back and stand tall.

I might even go as Rachael.

Thoughts?

I hated my time at secondary school and sixth form.

It turns out I'm socially a bit (very) shit, and a billion times moreso when I was a teen. And kids don't like that, especially back then.

So yeah, I still hate that lot.

I'd pay money to not be in a room with them as an adult!

Weirdly the most popular kids at that school seem to have done not an awful lot with their lives and still live in the same tiny village. The geeky ones who didn't fit in have had fascinating lives, travelled and achieved loads.

So that makes me feel a bit better.

Don't torture yourself. Spend time with people you like!

Always thought about going to one if one was organised but then I think 'I fucking hated most of the people at school why put myself through that shit again?' I know, I know grow up miss Geeky BUT all the 'cool kids' at school are still absolute knob heads according to Facebook, they still would be utter bastards to me so why bother? The only people I liked at school are still in my tiny circle of friends now and I can see them whenever I want!!

I had this dilemma a few years ago. Part of me wanted to turn up all defiant and show those who'd bullied me that I was doing great. But then I realised that they probably didn't give a toss about me and I certainly didn't give a toss about them

I go because it's nice to see everyone again. It was quite emotional seeing my old school buddies and nice to see them doing so well.

I'll go to mine, I'm a very different beast to what I was in high school, and those that bullied me, well they can go and deal with their insecurities somewhere else, I'm not interested in showing off to them

I see them all on face book, they ain't shit,

Go as Rachael. It's in the past. You've changed and so have they. At the least, you can get satisfaction at how badly the men have aged. I did.

I wouldn't bother. I was bullied at school too, and am perfectly happy knowing I overcame that and am better for it.

I imagine most people there will be desperately attempting to show how amazing they are to overcome their issues, so will have little time to help you with yours.

School is a shit time for a lot of people, and can't begin to imagine what it was like for you, but dragging up the past will likely just make you few worse.

It would be 'closure' as our American friends say and quite cathartic. Bury it all once and for all. And, like I said, an opportunity to be gleeful about paunches and baldness in ones school peers.

Seems to be a resounding 'no' and 'fuck that' from you all!

I spent years as I grew up imagining coming back to stand up to them.

I have an awesome life now. A wonderful wife. Four amazing kids who are all doing exceptionally well for themselves.

I have a crap van for work. A macho car with over 300bhp and a sexy girly car with enough space in it to take enough shoes and clothes for a weekend away.

I know I've done way better than the vast majority.

It's a closure thing in my mind.

I'd have curled up and died if anyone knew back then what I really was.

Now; I'm proud to be a gay. Gay with a hind of phwaor for girls too.

I'm proud to show the woman that I hid away for so many years too.

Do I need to walk proud in front of those who used to terrify me? That I don't really know.

Wouldn't interest me, I'm friends with the school friends I want to be. If you feel like you're going to 'show' others how you've become someone better than how they remember you, then you're never gonna enjoy yourself.

Do you, now, no need to drag up school people you didn't want to stay in touch with. Besides, a few of the straight guys might be tempted if you're Rachael

30 years ago things were very different. I don't think you can blame them too much for being all kinds of phobic.

I wouldn't go back, unless there will be people you actually want to see. I don't waste my time with people that I don't like/ that don't understand me. Time is better spent with people you care about.

I went to a school reunion thing a few yrs ago. I was bullied all the way through school and even on the night some idiots made several comments, which they thought was funny. Just nicknames but are what tortured me through school

. Honestly some people don't grow up . Stick to the people you have in your life now and don't put yourself through it!!.

You're a different person and so will they be.

Not excusing them for what they put you through but kids say and do a lot of hurtful things that they wouldn't dream of doing as an adult.

You could go, not drink so you can leave at anytime if you hate it or plan b, search out the bully's and kick f..k out of them for old times sake

Personally I had a crap time at high school and wild horses wouldn't drag me to a reunion.. I'm still in touch and see the people I want to.. all the haters can f*** off!

It depends on you.. do you want to see anyone in particular? Would going make you feel uncomfortable and stir up all the anguish again? I see you on the forum as a confident and sassy person and I think you would hold your own and not suffer any fools gladly.

Let us know what you decided and how it went if you go! X

I've read every answer posted here.

I think you're right. I'm a very different person to the one I was. I don't want some waste of space having the chance to poke a nerve I didn't realise was still exposed.

I'm way to open with people, I'm told, and I can see that taken advantage of by someone who's not done as much with their life.

I've served my country. Been shot at by people who don't know me. Travelled the world and nowadays I'm no longer the person people maliciously tease.

When people tease me about my sexuality or gender issues now it's because they can. Because they love me as me and know I don't take myself so seriously as to be unable to laugh with them.

I have lots of amazing friends.

You're right; fuck it. I'm not going.
