So, I'm heading back home to NYC later this week and I was thinking of what foods I would like to eat while I'm there - all the unhealthy stuff that I really miss. I'm going to have home fries, cheese, and eggs on a rolls for breakfast every morning and apple pie with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream for dessert.

But then I thought of what foods from the UK I could have my family try, like a full English breakfast and my latest experiment of a chip butty (although I'm still deciding on what sauce, if any, to put on the butty for them).

Anyway, it got me thinking...what foods do you all like from the US (I'm taking orders

) and what foods do you think I should have my American friends and family try from the UK?

When I lived abroad there was only a few things that I missed so I used to stock up on whenever I was back in old blighty. The said goods were (in order of importance)

1. Tea

2. Colmans English Mustard

3. Branston pickle

4. Tinned steam puddings

5. Marmite

Johnny Europe had little or no understanding of these food items. The poor fools!

Bacon - proper back bacon, smoked. Not the excuse that makes streaky look meaty.

Mature cheddar cheese.

HP sauce - the ONLY acceptable topping for brekkies.

Sausages- Cumberland.

Could go on.

When i was in new york i enjoyed the hotdogs and banter with the sellers.. Mustard was better than the colman.s here. Nearly mugged and arrested there too all before 6am ffs lol.. Anyway .. Not sure if you could use generic ingredients to make some foods over here? But.. Spotted dick with custard, cornish pastie, yorkshire tea, pork pie .. Melton Mowbray style.. but i would check what your allowed to take home first.

Buckfast I believe comes from the monks at Buckfastleigh in South Devon. I have a bottle in my collection unopened. They changed the formula for the stuff they sell after the Scots gave it a bad name!!

I am currently drinking Irn Bru though....

I've never been to America so there isn't anything that I would ask for but as for things that you could take over there...what about some traditional sweets (confectionary) like Everton mints, cough sweets, cherry lips etc

or you could make them some Yorkshire puddings and have a nice roast beef dinner with thick gravy to go with the mustard that others have suggested?

Dunkin Donuts is ace! I have coffee there every day when I'm home - it's down the block from my mom's place.

It's not the same, but I send my friend in Austria decent teabags, Sarsons vinegar, proper jam and HP Sauce (I do mean the brown variety, not Hanky Panky sauce!!)

I love anything Reeces or peanut butter based from America - so glad we can get them now and thank God for Costco - Skippy PB!

It's gold n crispy coating with Robertsons chicken spice from South Africa I want!! I can get the spice off Amazon, but not the coating (and it's AMAZING!!)
