Cheeky fuckers wanted an extra £20 to fill tyres with nitrogen instead of air. So now we can be ripped off even more

Didn't they do a test on Fifth Gear I think it was that programme?

On this and the conclusion was it made no difference ?

Yep kwik fit and yeah nitrogen makes no difference in normal road use. To make it even better its the same air line they have running the air tools, so they don't use nitrogen and try to charge you to say they have

I think they said using it in formula one tyres probably didn't make much difference either? Lol

It dose make long term difference keeps tyres correct pressure at all times unless you have a nail in it lol

Nitrogen dose not seep out of rubber like compressed air

Kingsway was best for my fill free lol but do know the boss

£20 rip off Britain at it again

When I last used Kwik Fit to get some new tyres for an MOT, they said that my tracking needed attention. The price was £20 for the rear and a special offer of £30 for rear and front.

When I asked them how could they adjust the rear tracking on my Beetle, ....silence.

I told them to take a running jump but would be happy for the tracking to be checked for free.

Needless to say, when I took the car to my regular main dealer garage a week later for the MOT and service, there was nothing wrong with the tracking. I can only say that it must have adjusted itself in a week.

Incidentally, the old tyres showed even wear over the whole width of the tyre.

That was 3 years ago and I haven't used Kwik Fit since.......call me old fashioned but I do like to feel confident in the staff at these places before I consider going back.

It makes them heavier and improves grip on the road. Do not, I repeat do not go to those jokers offering to fill them with helium for a fiver extra!!!

For a road car its all bollocks. Air is 78% Nitrogen anyway. On a race car it does make a v slight difference in the increase in cold to hot tyre pressures. So say no at a garage and save your hard earned ££s.

Go for the nitrogen "lite" version. Approx 78% nitrogen, 15-16% oxygen and the remainder mixed gases. I've tried it and it works a treat!!!

Fre yrs ago I took my car to have a clutch changed at kwik krap and they told Me it needed a new fly wheel

Told them to put the old one plus the clutch in my boot when they had finished

Was a lot of swearing coming from the garage and was told it would be a few hours before it was ready

I honestly don't think anything was wrong with the fly wheel but getting them to leave it in my boot helped to make sure they actually did the job

Pure Nitrogen doesn't seep out of tyres as much as plain air.

The pressure changes are less and more predictable as the tyre heats up.

It makes no discernible difference to a road car ( and anyway, most drivers can't even tell if their tyres are the wrong pressure)

It makes a difference to race cars.

It is used in aircraft tyres, again because of the changes in temperature and pressure.

It's a gimmick for normal cars.

We've got it in the Bugatti Veyron as its in storage and saves having an inconvenient low tyre when we pick it up... don't bother for our dailys tho as not worth it...
