If you can't get injections I use tescos own brand Hayfever and allergy tabs.I get it really bad and found these kick it into touch

The injections & anti-histamine tablets work by reducing your immune system response…therefore leaving you open to catching colds, flu, viruses. So, its really important you don't overdose & these work over time, not instantly as the drug builds up in your system.

Fexofenadine is a strong antihistamine but doesn't work for everyone, nor will other brands.

Local honey works by acclimatising your system to the various pollens in your area…so may not work all the time.

I have to use an air filter & vaseline under my nostrils which the pollen sticks to. I have to wash my clothes & hair everyday & can't dry anything on the line.

In short, trial & error depending on your overall health & severity of the problem.

I take a once a day dose hayfever Tablet, if still getting the sneezing and runny nose, then get a hayfever nasal spray from the chemist. Hayfever eye drops for itching eyes too.

Local honey, hayfever tablets, balm tissues to save the skin on your nose, eye drops, cold damp flannel on your face and, when all else fails, a paper bag as (if you're anything like me) you'll look like the Elephant Man in a couple of weeks regardless of what you do!

A doctor told my daughter to do that for my grandson's asthma and allergies. Getting them to eat it is the difficulty

I read an article a couple of weeks ago in which it is claimed the probiotic drinks, Yakult, etc. have helped many people fight off hay fever. Being the sceptic person I am, I googled for more info, turns out there have been very many cases being reported, via the NHS and other health organisations across the globe. Worth trying.

Close the windows in the evening, to prevent pollen rising in the air into the house. Close the curtains in the day if it's sunny, to prevent heat building up. Dry clothes indoors, vacuum regularly and use a damp cloth to dust.

As for medications, Piriton is the most effective one for me, but not necessarily for everyone. I'll take one a day when it's my hayfever season, as different pollens are produced at different times of the year, so knowing when yours usually occur, help to minimise the effects. Mine is about to start.

The Vaseline trick is effective and wearing wrap around sunglasses helps. Don't rub your eyes though, try splashing with clean water.

Local honey - spoonful a day. But has to be from bees near where you live.

Don't hang bedding out to get covered in pollen either.

there is something you can buy that is basically a vaseline based something - that catches the pollen before it hits your nose - you smear it under it - hope im not imagining this but sure ive heard of it

I bet there's someone with hives somewhere there. You'd be surprised. Nothing like local honey. I'd send you some from down here but it won't work for hayfever.

Doesn't the local honey have to be unpasteurised and within a radius of about 10 miles? Also, as hayfever is often triggered by grass pollens, which aren't found in honey, it may not be effective for everyone. It's definitely worth giving it a go though.

If you're really suffering dont hang your washing on the line to dry to keep it pollen free. Then you need to get undressed out of the bedroom and shower before bed to keep pollen out of the bedroom.

When I was in my late teens I used to suffer terrible with hayfever. The docter sent me to have a skin test were I had small pricks in the arm to see what pollens I got a reaction to.

Then from around February (out of season) I got two injections per week...gradually increasing the strength of the pollen, For 8 weeks. And that was the end of my hayfever.

I don't know if this is still a option on the NHS but it is worth asking your GP about it for next year.

Talking about water...before my cure I would keep well away from countryside days out and go to the seaside which seem to alleviate it.

It's called Hay Max from Holland & Barratt! Thank god its helping me as histamines aren't doing the trick! Great thread everyone xx

Cetirizine Hydrochloride tablets. Only allergy tablets that actually properly work - I get hayfever and all kinds of other allergies.

Don't ask me which brand, but you can get them on prescription if you ask the pharmacist, or buy them in bolk online cheap like I do.

Cetirizine as well as nasal sprays. Topical treatments if and as required.

Pollution is really high atm too which can aggravate it.

Hypnosis cut my sever year round hay fever to a more tolerable problem that comes and goes with light attacks now. I keep curtains closed with windows on bad days and shower when I get in to prevent build up in my home.
