Took dog to vets today, booked in tomorrow to have her put down 14 years we've had her! It's traumatic, however it's cruel to be kind ya da ya da. I feel really insensitive asking this however if you've done it, how much did it cost?!

Sorry to hear that

£50- £150.

I've only done a quick Google search and that's what it's coming back with.

we had to take our son's dog last week, it was £110 and a further £80 if we wanted them to dispose of the dogs remains

I know how this feels only too well today, I took my dog today I knew what he was going to say (cancer) so tried to prepare myself.

It didn't work I'm a mess the nurse held her while

I had her head in my hands so I could look into her eyes just kept saying I loved her.

I'm heart broken now haven't stopped crying for the last 3 hours.

Best wishes to you xx

Sorry to hear you are going through this.

It's been a long time since we had our gsd put to sleep but I think it was around £35-40 but we took him straight home to bury. It would be more expensive if they keep and cremate your pup for you

somewhere in the sticks

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown…

Sending hugs for you.

Awful having to do it. Our dog is getting on now. Hes 15 and I can see he is proper slowing down.

But the thought of having to do that at somepoint in the future is hearbreaking. Its almost like playing god with a life. But as pet lovers, we have to do things like this.

When it comes to it, I am going to try and find a vet that will come out to us and do it. So that he is in his own home.

Thinking about you. xx

It was £200 a couple of years ago for the injection and cremation though it will probably vary between surgery's. It is cheaper if you have the body back or if they take the body. Feel for you though you have to do what is best him.

It's a tough thing to do. My springer was by my side for 15 years and I had her put to sleep in Feb 15. Still can't think of it without welling up. I had the nurse out to my house. They did the Injections and then stayed with me for a little while after and allowed me to say goodbye. They wrapped her in a blanket and put her in the car and then she went for general cremation. I didn't want her ashes. It cost me 200 quid. I was absolutely beside myself watching her go but glad I did it at home. Can't even type this without crying. She was so old, deaf and blind. Taking her to the vet would have frightened her more I think.

Feel better soon. Good dog owners make very hard decisions.

I personally wouldn't ask a vet practice to "take care" of mine, after they have put them to sleep,as you never quite know how or what they'll be doing

I do have to say, but there's a pet cemetery up here in North Wales, and they have their own crematorium.

Truly wonderful people that are sincere and caring about looking after your friends.

So much appreciation for all the comments, means the world. I'm not as bad as I thought I'd be. The build up to it was horrific but as I watched her fall to sleep I felt a sense of relief for her and for us. I feel ok now, I definitely did the right thing. Times like this make me think euthanasia should be a world wide choice. So happy she can rest in peace. 14 years, shes seen it all! Thanks again all.

Big hugs it's an awful time but we do it because we love them and do t want them to suffer. I lost my boy 4 years ago but I know I made the right decision to let him go.

It cost me £200 in total to have him put to sleep but I also had him cremated separately and he's now back with me in a beautiful engraved box xx

It's a horrible thing and it affected me a lot, I was devastated. For them though it is really peaceful and wouldn't we all want to go peacefully with our loved ones around us holding us til the end.

It is approx £120 plus £80 for individual cremation, extra for a casket for the ashes.

Best wishes to you.

Now when i took my cat to be put to sleep in november, when i went to pay she said i didnt have to pay now. I did but it sounded like some after payment plan as theyve never said it when i normally go to the vets although they may have just said it cause they knew me and knew how upset i was but might be worth asking

Honestly can't thank you all enough, it cost 260 all together but that was a small price to pay. 14 years of joy and happiness and I gave her the gift of dignity l, the opposite would of been... let her shit and piss herself and get worse. I wouldn't say I'm happy but I'm proud

So so hard but as long as you are doing best by them then so be it. It's like devil's advocate right up to the last minute I was like. .. is this right... but when she passed I knew it was.

It's like playing devil's advocate but once you do it you will feel peace and thank yourself for doing it. Until the last minute I questioned if she was ready but I knew anyway.
