"Fun fact: Hellmans mayonnaise was originally produced in the UK. In 1912 a shipment headed for Mexico was loaded into the hold of the Titanic. It was an important import for Mexico as it could not be obtained in the Americas and was really popular. In fact, it was seen as an essential food stuff. As we all know, that particular shipment did not make it. There was almost a period of mourning in Mexico at the news since it could be a month or more when new stocks could hit retail outlets which were already dangerously low. From that day to this Mexicans observe a day of rememberance. They called it Sinko de Mayo. ![]() Didn't see that one coming ![]() | |||
