Any smart phone can do those. But just make sure its 8gb or over. And as for brands, I would look at LG, HTC or Sony if your looking at Android phones.

Do NOT get a windows phone.... Kik doesn't work properly on those... known issue and neither Microsoft or Kik planning to do anything about it.

Personally I'd recommend Samsung or HTC..

Hi, if you don't won't locked into a long contract check out Amazon for phones, buy an unlocked one, get a sim only deal from your provider.

Once you put your sim in contact your provider and get them to configure your phone to there system.

I did this and saved a bit of money.

Checkout the deal for say a 24 month contract and see if the Amazon way is cheaper. Jim

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

HTC batteries can be a problem though I loved mine. However, I've had two Samsungs and really liked them.

Tesco do great contracts where you can see how much you are paying for the phone. You can get new phone every two years and pass the old one on. They're on 02 network.also look at giffgaff for sim only deals.

Jiayu S3 or s3+, cost you about £100 faster than most mobiles out there, battery long lasting, octo core 3gb ram 3200mah battery, 4g, 13mp camera, all the other functions too, proper chinese brand but quality product. once you have bought this you wouldnt look again at the price of the high street rip offs.

These days the choice is IOS (apple iphone) or Android (all the rest). So criteria are the same as for a telly or a laptop - price/hardware spec - functionally, they're all the same if they're on the same level of operating system.

on the road to nowhere in particular

Go to somewhere like game and get a used iPhone for £90 and then get a sim only contract from the provider of your choice, don't forget gif gaf for cheap contracts

Get yourself a second hand iphone 5 which is in good condition. Simple to use, Internet friendly, easy app guidance and a decent camera. You won't go wrong with that, it'll do everything you want to as a beginner and a bit more as you progress in a smooth, easy manner. Some excellent 2nd hand deals out there to

Be had.

Windows have had some high spec phones that have been much cheaper than their equivalents on other systems. I wouldn't go high cost as your first one. No need to spend more than £100.

Second hand with a guarantee is also an option.

Samsung every time for me, thought build quality on Sony was poor, plus the screen wasn't that good.

Not a fan of iphones.

Hate iphones. Tried one once and just so not easy for a newbie. I've had Samsung phones for many a year now. Had others like HTC and Sony but Samsung are in my opinion the most user friendly. You can get pretty cheap ones if you don't want all the thrills.

Recent convert to IPhone from Android (Samsung) and previously BlackBerry. Apple operating systems are intuitive and of the highest quality. I will shortly be ditching the Samsung Tablet for an IPad even though there are so called operating limitations set by Apple. Bottom line is that I don't want or need to be overly techs, I just want a fully functioning smartphone tablet combo that is easy to use. Apple IPhone 6S is the best handset I have ever had by a country mile.
