breast feeding

today we were in a café and a lady got her breast out to breastfeed the thing was her child was 6 or more. it looked very odd to see a walking talking child on the breast. what do peeps think?

Personally I feel that once a child is of school age it should stop but I defend other people's right to continue.

I would defend someone's right to so if they wished (free country and all) but I would seriously question their judgement for the sake of the child.

IMO, if it was a baby who needed feeding in a public place I'd have no issue with it. However, a six year old doesn't need it in a puboic place... I understand if it might be a comfort for the child but I can't help thinking that in public isn't the time or place.

I feed my daughter till she was nearly 3 that was plenty long enough and the boy child till he was 1.

It was more of a comfort thing for my daughter. I can't see the benefits for older children but each to their own.

No issue with me at whatever age... personal choice etc.

That said, out of respect for people who might be offended, (and they have the right to feel different about this) it should be done discreetly and not "I am making a point here"

Their kid. Their breasts. Their business. You have this wonderful swivel thing that makes your head turn away if you don't wanna see.

The average world wide age for weaning is 4 years old. 10 years is not uncommon in Mongolian society.

Bodybuilders buy breast milk online got its regenerative powers and it is beine used to halt some cancers. Magic stuff.

Don't diss the boobie milk!

I fed mine until they were nearly 3. And they still weren't happy about stopping. I mostly stopped due to peer pressure and society's views of extended breastfeeding.

Anthropologically though, the average weaning age for humans is around 7 years.

If I was still feeding mine they would be better off nutritionally because they are incredibly picky eaters.

But I didn't want them to get picked on at school/remember it because of the general perception of extended bf.

Oh well.

(And I was so glad to stop as its knackering! Anyone who says mums feed for their own benefit is a lunatic.)

I think it's nice the kids still want to connect to their parents. I stopped bf mine when they got teeth and it hurt, probably could have gone past that pain and continued feeding them but they were on solids by then so i felt it was ok to stop for my sake.

yeah breast milk is the best of course no doubt about that im not sure about the body builders buying it though... just not in public. no thanks.

I know for a fact that body builders by it.

I stopped feeding my 3 year old less than a month ago, I am sad to admit because my family and friends made me feel so ashamed.

I have been a peer supporter all this time and if anyone wants proper information feel free to pm me and I will direct them to the facts from medical journals rather than urban legend.

I have heard about this and just about everything to do with bodylbuidling competitions, while some body builders do all sorts of things , from breast milk to "injecting"... it is really not taken seriously in the world of genuine bodybuilding competition. But then , there is placebo and whatever makes people feel good about themselves and their goals .. that is ok by me.

I just had the visual imagewhich made me chuckle.

I just don't see it's anyone else's business. Don't like it, don't look. If you're uncomfortable, those feelings are yours, own them and deal with them without shaming the mother for doing what is completely natural. Society in general definitely has the breastfeeding thing all wrong still.

I still breastfeed my LO who turns 2 in 2 days and I'm very proud of it.

Nowt wrong with nursing a child even in public (unless you are a squeezing your nipple and the child has to catch the squirts ) but at 6 i personally think that's a bit too old for them to still be breastfed.

No i am not and never claimed to be. This is an open forum where people are entitled to voice their opinion. The OP asked for peoples thoughts on the matter and i gave mine. If the OP had asked for medical facts then by all means bring me up on it.

You can continue to nurse your child for as long as you want, nowt to do with me but if an open thread asks for peoples thoughts people will gibe their thoughts

Robin Arryn was still getting breastfeed at the age of 10.

I think breastfeeding at the age of 6 is rather unusual. That being said it wouldn't bother me if a mother decided to breastfeed her child at that age in public or private alike.

I am actually mind-boggled by the fact that, people now view breastfeeding in public as gross.
