Anyone else suffer with this? I first had an attack about 8 years ago and doc prescribed high strength pain killers. Came back about 3 months ago and after doing a bit of reading I decided to try magnesium supplements, must have worked because, like an idiot, when the pain stopped I forgot to take the supplements and now this week it's come back again

Popping pills like no tomorrow as we're supposed to be partying tonight

I must admit, I hadn't heard of a coital migraine before and now that I do, count my blessings that my frequent migraines are only caused by food (all of my favourites plus sweeteners and msg), overheating, low body sugars, stress, medication rebounds and certain smells. Having sex as a trigger would finish me off. .

I feel your pain and can only offer help from personal experience as to what helps to ease mine.

A cool, dark room helps, so I always travel with a sleep mask, just in case.

An ice pack wrapped in a tea towel in between the pillows helps cool the pillow, flipping the cool surface next to your face as you rest.

I have a MigraCap which sometimes helps. It's basically a lot of ice packs in the shape of a hood at strategic places. Google for more information.

A proper sleeping tablet (I use 10mg temazepam) definitely helps to not only sleep but to ease the pain too. I can go to work on one without sleeping until I close my eyes later in the day when home.

Drink plenty of water throughout, much more than your body will want you to sip, so drink it down and keep on doing so.

Coconut water helps me, the good quality type, no additives, usually on offer in the supermarket, 2 large for £5 at Tesco now.

Naratriptan or Sumatriptan are the only 'magic' pills. One can stop it, another after a few hours is suggested if the first doesn't stop it, but that's the maximum dosage for a few days then. Prescription for better value or ask at the pharmacy for an over the counter version for about £8 for 2 pills. I can't remember the name offhand.

Hope your migraine eases and any of these are new suggestions which might work.

Aww thankyou, I'm very lucky in that this is the only thing that sets them off, I don't suffer from migraines at all otherwise and I can count on my fingers the amount I've had in my entire life. Anyone who has migraines on a regular basis has my utmost sympathy, it's bloody awful

It gives a whole new meaning to mind blowing orgasm though!!

Avoid coffee, peanuts, cheese and strawberries for the day. If you do party tonight avoid red wine and ruby beers as they will bring it back on. Take 2 paracetamol and 3 inbuprofen with a large glass of water and take a nap. Should help clear your head for tonight.

Feel better soon xx

Actually, coffee is one if the confusing ones. It can be a trigger or a cure. Too much or not enough, either can cause migraines. When painkillers are taken with coffee, the effectiveness is increased, so the medication starts to work quicker. Other confusing triggers are sleep, so too much sleep causes a migraine, too little sleep does too, as does sleeping in late on a day when you're not up at a much earlier time, such as weekends. Bananas are triggers for many, bananas are the cure for others. I have also found that during a migraine, sex is a temporary relief for me, very temporary, as it disappears for just a few minutes and then returns straight after. A few minutes of relief are golden minutes though.

Each of us is different though, so it takes time to find out what works or doesn't work for us. Every tip is valuable and much appr ciat d. Some will work for us too, some will not, but we get a greater understanding of the problem and the solutions by sharing the results with others.

My migraines arrived with the return of my periods after the birth of my youngest child, at least one every month since. Looking forward to menopause....
