"The only thing that ever worked for me if had toothache was paramol. Although you cant take it long term. Either that or lying a hot water bottle (but thats really not recommended by dentists....but it helped me to drift off to sleep) Hope you feel better soon x" Yes the hot water bottle works in the short term but inflames the abcess in the long term x

"Oh no, that's the worst pain ever! When I had it I was using vodka as a mouthwash to deaden it. On top of paracetamol and ibuprofen taken together. It barely touched it but was better than nothing. (Do not swallow the vodka if you've taken painkillers! Although death would probably seem like a nice option about now. Hang in there.)" Cheers...it has calmed down a bit now and I think I have a half of a zopiclone in my tablet drawer...I'm off to look for that now x

"Rinse your mouth, especially around the affected tooth area with salt water (a teaspoon of salt dissolved in a cup of warm water (approx 235ml), but doesn't have to be that accurate). Do this several times a day. The salt water promotes healing and fights off the infection until you can get it sorted. I have just had a wisdom tooth removed and this is what the dentist recommends, to help fight infection until it's healed in about a month. Painkillers such as ibuprofen can be taken with paracetamol, up to the maximum dose for each, but no other painkillers can be taken as well. Take them with food or just after. Do not take them on an empty stomach. Hope this helps and you're pain free soon. x" I forgot to mention that you should not swallow this salty water afterwards. Spit, not swallow (in this instance).

Cocodamol contains paracetamol, so it can only be taken up to the maximum combined amount of the paracetamol dose. When in pain, we tend to want to take everything and overlooking the paracetamol amount in different products leads to an overdose, not nice with even the common painkillers.

"Take paracetamol. Four hours later take Ibuprofen. Use ICE PACKS not hot water bottles Frequent salt washes to clean the mouth of bacteria will help until you get to the dentist. DRASTIC....... Pull it out with pliers and lance the abscess. SMALL PRINT.... I take no responsibility for the following of any info in this post tho I believe it to be correct. " It's ok granny...I've just seen your small print 3 years on and I'm still alive and kicking
