This is from a man's point of view, but do regular gym goers find that...

Women get really catty at the gym? Like when there's little groups of them and then either a single female or one with her partner walk by they just give them death stares or jealous looks? Especially when said female's got a cracking figure. Can anyone relate to this?

Jealousy between blokes in the gym is pretty uneventful I find. You see a bloke that's bigger than you and you sort of stare for a bit and tell yourself that this is you in a year's time if you put the work in. Then you just accept things as they are and carry on about your business

Brighton - even Hove!

Yeah well, I look at both. Ogle the ladies (without them noticing) and try and nick tips and techniques off the guys.

A good ogling is half the reason I go sir!

But don't you find the women get really jealous of each other in there? I mean imagine if we were like that, too busy talking shit about others? No workout would ever get done!

I'm too busy sweating like a rapist and breathing put my arse to notice if there's anyone else in the gym.

I'm probably the girl being stared at. Haha.

I got disciplined at a ladies only gym for making too much noise and taking too long to wipe my sweat off the machines

Can't say I notice, mainly focussed on not falling off anything or collapsing in a hyperventilating heap. Genuinely couldn't give a rat's toenail what anyone else in the gym looks like.

Work out. Not make out.

Can't say I've noticed, far too busy being irritated by the gym wankers that feel the need to slam the weights down repeatedly so everyone looks at them and how much they're lifting.

Probably think people are impressed, we're actually just thinking 'dickhead'.

If it was a kinky kind of discipline I'd be signing up.

OP - not noticed it at the gym I use and I'm not in a gang. I just chat and smile at anyone though. I chose it because it's a friendly gym.

I visited a gym once about twenty five years ago.

I never returned because I found it full of posey wankers who looked down their nose at this skinny kid who dared enter their domain.

Now I'm a chubby cunt and I have no desire to be in any gym wankers company.

(Not everyone who goes to the gym is a gym wanker)

At the gym women always flirted with me. They'd ask when I'm gonna be done on a machine, or how many sets I had left, stuff like that. It was very subtle but I knew what they were doing

I don't think about it one bit. Headphones in hood up and I'm in my world and that gym is mine for a few hours. I don't care how big other people are, what they are doing as its none of my business. I do what I do and see and feel results down the line.

There's no need for it. The gym is where you go to work on your body, which has so many physical and mental benefits. I respect anyone that walks in through that door as it shows a willingness to want to better yourself; no one should ever be begrudged that.

Mcr

Soooo many women lately with full warpaint on and in groups of 3-4 spend more time chatting. I heard one such group saying they didn't like getting sweaty.. its a gym love... that's the name of the game.

There also seems to be a current rash of hipsters or crossfitters or both who drop weights, use shocking form and dropping weights.

C'Mon we all drop that heavy deadlift, or now and then lose it and drop the bar mid squat but hipster types usually lift 32kg and it 1 rep, kerdunk, walk around, 1 rep, kerdunk, repeat.

Oh the type of person who decides bicep curls I'm a rack, is acceptable or lining up 10 bits of gear because your work out is overly complex.

I really need diazepam some days :p

Maybe women just crave attention more than men so by putting down others it makes them feel better about themselves

I don't really know, I suppose we could have a few opinions on this but that's all they are

Why drop it though? If you can do your reps no problem then why can't you lower the weight back down? If it's too heavy then lower it, surely that could cause an injury.

I mean the royal you, not specifically you, btw.

I saw this guy last week who had a massive weight at each end of the bar. He lifted it up in the air a couple of times, then as he lowered it back down he got as far as his chest and just let it drop to the floor. He did this a few times. Why, is there really a need for it? Sadly he didn't drop it on his foot, but I live in hope

And while we're on the subject - the grunting. Really???

You don't have to use a gym to better yourself

I hate gyms, I see no point in joining a gym as I know I wouldn't stick to it, I lost 7 stone a couple of years ago and never set foot in a gym, I got a bike for work and I cycle about 30 miles a day, I also go out jogging with the dogs (and I have a greyhound so that's no a sight to be sniffed at ), excerise can come in all form and can also be free

Agreed. But some people (like myself) need to be surrounded by others to feel motivated. Like that cycle to work idea may be great for you but I'd only do it if it was with someone else. Being around others gives me energy, I feed off their zest and aura.

Our gym is a pretty good mix, women men, ages and sizes and we have never really had any problems.

Other than the skinny plimsoll wearing quiffy haired knobs who think they are Arnold.

When in fact they are more Mr bean.

Until the other day when this woman for some reason has taken a dislike to jools and spends most of her time giving Jools filthy looks and whispering to her gym partner.

Fuck her.

We are there to workout not look pretty.

We train hard, sweat hard, and get out when done.

Simple.

That's the sort of behaviour that puts me off gyms, I know for a fact if I went to a gym I'd be the butt of everybody's joke so I have never bothered

Tbh in the two years that Jools has been coming to the gym with me, it's first time.

And she is just jealous.

As for the lads in plimsolls, well you don't need to go to a gym to bump into these self obsessed, narcissistic assholes.

Every pub, club or branch of Burton is full of them.

Ear phones in. Volume up. Start loading the iron. Don't have time to chat. Xx. Well sometimes. Just the odd nod or smile. Occasionally I'll get the local chick rabbiting at me. Not got an effing clue what she's saying my earphones are in. I just smile. ??

I'm fortunate at my uni gym I guess, as we don't get this. Unless they're doing it behind my back. I'm very friendly with me male staff, so I probably do get some bitching about me. Probably as we're a closed shop there's enough cat fighting and bloke's one upmanship in classes and in the bars-the gym has a positive fun vibe and dedicated pursuit of health and beauty.
