Should condemnation of Israeli policy with regards to its conflict with Palestine be considered anti semitic ?

I don;t see why it should.

Criticism of Israeli foreign and domestic policy has nothing to do with the Holocaust

Nope. But that's not the only thing rearing its ugly head if the background to your OP relates to the current status quo within the Labour Party.

When the Tweets posts and opinion contain comments about big noses and gas chambers then it takes a sinister term.

this..

anyone alluding to the justified criticism in Israel's treatment of the Palestinians post 1948 as being anti semitic is playing the deflection game..

Antisemitism is prejudice against, hatred of, or discrimination against Jews as an ethnic, religious, or racial group.

The holocaust was a result of anti semitism.

Naz Shah and now Ken Livingstone both suspended by the Labour party. They should both be thrown out. Just saw Ken Livingstone on sky news having an almighty public bust up with the Labour MP John Mann. Labour look like they are in meltdown.

Labour are now seen as the party that anti Semites flock to.

Corbyn is largely responsible for this as he continually fails to address the problem. Maybe it's because he holds such beliefs, his brother certainly does.

Or they should after due process if found to be in breach etc be thrown out, innocent until proven guilty and all that good English law stuff..

Yes there is something going on and strong leadership is required to eradicate it as its wrong..

Meltdown is hysterical hyperbole perhaps from those who support other parties who have also had and still do have their own issues..

or when its UKIP and racists within is it 'only the odd bad apple' or when its the Tories and bullying which led to the death of a young conservative is it an 'isolated incident'..

Say what you like about UKIP, at least they throw people out the party when they step out of line, unlike Labour who only offer suspensions.

If you watch the footage on sky news of Ken Livingstone's and John Mann's bust up then Meltdown seems very appropriate.

Also just saw David Cameron speaking on this, he says anti semitism is just like racism, and it is now very clear that Labour has a problem with anti semitism in its party.

And rightly so although not sure UKIP can be held as a shining light of democracy with the shambles of Farrage and the now suspended Suzanne Evans..

the amount of other Labour MP's who are calling for action indicates yes there is an issue which requires action so meltdown is again hysterical hyperbole..

Cameron? ffs what else would he say in relation to it, something objective..?

Please explain how.

The Jewish population in Eastern Europe was decimated by Germany and the numbers are not up to what they were pre war.

The Palestinian population has gradually risen since the inception of Israel so your post is very inaccurate.

We are going to Israel in the summer. There are clubs in Tel Aviv

Criticism of the State of Israel and Zionism has a firm base amongst British Jews. The line between that argument and anti-semitism is sometimes a difficult one to define - but I think Ken's 9 lives are up.

Having said that, I'd throw John Mann out of the party too.

someone did once say the truth is out there..

but you have to look at the actual truth and not one which you make up to bolster ones position..

not a fan of some of Israel's policies post 48 but to say they've killed 6 million Palestinian's is ludicrous and only serves to diminish any valid points you make about that state..

I make it roughly:

You have added two digits to the figure killed by Israeli forces so the figure I quoted as 4,000 was accurate.

I said it could be argued over - I cited the source and this does not cover acts by police not individuals.

The full figure will never be known, in all probability.

"I don;t see why it should.

Criticism of Israeli foreign and domestic policy has nothing to do with the Holocaust

Antisemitism is prejudice against, hatred of, or discrimination against Jews as an ethnic, religious, or racial group.

The holocaust was a result of anti semitism. "

And does that justify the genocide that the Israeli state has been responsible for decades?

See the figures above. Genocide is an exaggeration on a massive scale.

The Palestinian population grows year on year, that is not the definition of genocide.

I really can't understand the press.

Or the people who think it's wrong to criticse Israel(or even have a valid hatred of what's being allowed to happen there).

Lots of people on the left(at least) hate the way Israel wages an unjust war against Palestine, and are doubly outraged that countries like France and the US support this financially and via arms.

That's not anti-semitic at all. It's anti-Israel. SO what if the majority of the population are jews. It's not an ethnic thing, it's a humanity(or lack of it) thing.

I'm sure the figures can be argued over.

Your 4000 figure comes from here but is not a total picture...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7375994.stm

29 September 2000 to 31 March 2008

Occupied Territories Israel

Palestinians killed by Israeli security forces 4,608 67

Palestinians killed by Israeli civilians 44 0

Israeli civilians killed by Palestinians 234 481

Israeli security force personnel killed by Palestinians 242 87

Foreign citizens killed by Palestinians 17 37

Foreign citizens killed by Israeli security forces 10 0

Palestinians killed by Palestinians 577 0

Source: B'Tselem (Israeli Information Centre for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories)

You have added two digits to the figure killed by Israeli forces so the figure I quoted as 4,000 was accurate.

I said it could be argued over - I cited the source and this does not cover acts by police not individuals.

The full figure will never be known, in all probability.

But you know... it's just numbers...

.

8,701 — Number of Palestinians killed by Israelis 2000-2014.

1,138 — Number of Israelis killed by Palestinians 2000-2014.

8:1 — Ratio of Palestinian-Israeli deaths 2000-2014.

_

1,772 — Number of Palestinian children killed by Israelis 2000-2014.

93 — Number of Israeli children killed by Palestinians 2000-2014.

19:1 — Ratio of Palestinian-Israeli child deaths 2000-2014.

So it's not all one way traffic as some people would like us to believe ?

You mean Palestinians blowing up Israelis??

It's terrible on both sides.

Only one side is taking away territory in contravention of any decent state's laws from another though.

SO who's the aggressor?

Since 2001 Palestine have launched 19,000 missiles on Israel.

And Israel has annexed over 50% of the land of these Palestinian people.. one could argue the Palestinians are launching rockets into Palestine.....just Google Israel land expansion maps....

So the firing of missiles is justified ?

If France had subdgugated and annexed the south east of England and most of the southwest (they can have cornwall).... would you fire rockets from the Midlands? "

No

The IRA were/are a percentage of a population; not all of the population and Northern Ireland was divided by religious ethos..Israel has consistently taken land from Palestine, imposed stop and search controls on people leaving the territory of Palestine and turned the west bank and gaza into virtual ghettos..... sound familiar? I don't condone violence or "terrorism" but if the international community turns a blind eye to flagrant disregards of sovereignty, then how should a nation defend and hold its land?? Google the maps, people lie, maps of expanding territories do not.

Totally undetectable launch pads could be built in the East Midlands as it's only slightly smaller than Asia

No. And I think the some of the Jewish community should be more humble and remember their history. They're occupying land that doesn't belong to them

Either 1967 (when the UN ratified the land gained from the 6 day war) or 1948 when the state of Israel was created (68% of the former Palestine).... your choice... it won't change the fact that;

Israel is the only country to never have declared "official" borders and that they continue to take land from Palestine and cry foul if the people they take from wish to defend it..

"Genocide is an exaggeration on a massive scale.

The Palestinian population grows year on year, that is not the definition of genocide. "

Israel has done many things wrong. But if they were actually trying to commit genocide, they're at the very least incompetent.

No. I condem the Isreal goverment for what they?re doing, not the religion or the common citizen. They do try to deflect criticism by saying your anti semetic.

"Should condemnation of Israeli policy with regards to its conflict with Palestine be considered anti semitic ?"

Absolutely, categorically and thoroughly not!!! Israeli policy is Zionist (not Jewish) and therefore criticism of it is not anti-Semitic in nature. Although it is a regularly used excuse to dissuade any who find their abhorrent behaviour with regards to Palestine unacceptable. There are a great many orthodox Jews who also condemn Zionist/Israeli behaviour in Palestine and to my mind, rightly so! It is disgrace.

Furthermore, it is very difficult to obtain a balanced report on the atrocities occuring in Palestine (without significant research) due to the level of control Zionist have of the mainstream media, oh, and the world's financial systems.

I thank my lucky stars on a regular basis that "I won the geographical lottery" by being born in this particular part of this beautiful planet, but also spare many a thought for those who weren't so lucky. The horror of being a victim of the Holocaust is not by any means one I am downplaying and nor am I anti-Semitic, but Israeli policy to Palestinians has direct correlations between it and the behaviour of nazi-Germany towards Jews.

Israels' complete disregard for the resolutions passed by the United Nations (and indeed the opinions of a large majority of the world) further displays their disrespect for the fundamental basic human rights of Palestinians, both Muslim and Christian, showing how far they are prepared to go to obtain the whole of "the greater state of Israel" (from the Euphrates to the Nile), regardless of the cost to human life. To hide behind the cry of "Anti-Semitism" is disrespectful to all those who truly suffered during the Holocaust (and their families) and proof that history can and does repeat itself.....

Israeli universities allow Palestinian students. Arab students and professors study, research, and teach at Israeli universities. At Haifa University, against Israel, 20 percent of the students are Arabs.

Palestine universities ban Jews.

Tel Aviv have a gay pride day.

You are stoned in Palestine for being gay.

The Israeli Declaration of Independence called upon the Arab inhabitants of Israel to “participate in the upbuilding of the State on the basis of full and equal citizenship and due representation in all its provisional and permanent institutions.

Hamas & Hezbollagh call for the destruction of Israel and its inhabitants.

It is illegal for Israeli employers to discriminate on the basis of race and Arab citizens of Israel are represented in all walks of Israeli life. Arabs have served in senior diplomatic and government positions and an Arab currently serves on the Supreme Court.

This does not seem like a nation hell bent on genocide to me.

"

A Zionist believes that Jewish people have the right to their own homeland.

Zionism

'z???n?zm/

noun

1.

a movement for (originally) the re-establishment and (now) the development and protection of a Jewish nation in what is now Israel. It was established as a political organization in 1897 under Theodor Herzl, and was later led by Chaim Weizmann.

To be an anti Zionist is to be anti allowing the Jews a nation.

I would call this somewhat anti Semitic.

To hide your Jewish hatred behind the anti Zionist movement is the modern day anti semitism and your believe that the Israelis are as bad as the nazis I would say is largely anti Semitic.

But considering how much pressure the tories are under because of the dispute with the junior doctors, Academisation of all schools, the EU referendum and now 20 odd years of smearing the Liverpool 96 to protect a corrupt police force it is no surprise that the right wing press are attacking the opposition in any way they can and that caMoron is latching on to anything that can divert attention from his personal and parties conduct across the board.

If you take religion out of the equation.. for just a moment. Do we as a global society condemn those that invade other people's land and take from them? Not as a supercilious act of "freeing" a nation but actually to gain another's land? If the country is condemned by the global system (international courts, the United nations even it's own high court) then it must be viewed that the occupation of another sovereign nation is an aggressive condemnable act....

Regardless of whether those doing the occupation are jedi knights, Jews, Muslims or Christians. Haven't we progressed from the subjugation of others for our own material gain; regardless of the rationale behind it?

But criticise Israel's occupation you are branded an anti-semite, if you criticised Iraq's invasion of Kuwait.... we're you anti-sunni?

Good job the Labour Party are taking responsibility for a small minority's conduct (and let's face it it is a small minority) because the tin foil hat conspiracy junta are not having it.

Corbyn just been on saying he will root out the racists in his party so fair play to him admitting the problem.

I agree with this and to be honest, the whole history of modern Israel is somewhat dubious... on the other hand, the comments made were not exactly eloquent..

But criticise Israel's occupation you are branded an anti-semite, if you criticised Iraq's invasion of Kuwait.... we're you anti-sunni?"

Shh. Stop. Actually don't. It's like watching paint bleed. Except more disturbing.

"Israeli universities allow Palestinian students.

Also, as I'm a bisexual, atheist, feminist, socialist (not to mention group sex enthusiast), there's only ONE country in that region where I wouldn't be at the very least thrown in jail immediately. Clue, it starts with I...

And because of this its acceptable to systematically steal land from another country and let those left love like refugees in ghettos....

"Sorry we stole your land... but come and March for your rights on ours (that you used to own)...attend our university (we built on your land) hell we will even sell you vegetables we have grown (on your old fields)...

So a rainbow flag and a 1% admission rate for Muslims in the university trumps 50% land annexation and condemnation by every global court and structure... who knew "

1%?! Where does that come from?.It certainly didn't look like 1% at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1995 and 1996.

Which brings me to another question : how many of the critics have been theRe?

Okay. Ken has finally lost it. Shah was just being satirical with her reposting on Facebook for Israel being relocated into the US(how anyone can't see that is beyond me).

She's obviously anti Israel( as in the governments of Israel), and not anti semitic.

Oh Ken..

Hitler certainly wasn't a Zionist. It's absurd. Unless you take the line that Zionism(according to Dictionary.com) is:

a worldwide Jewish movement that resulted in the establishment and development of the state of Israel.

In which case I can see what he was trying to say.

Unfortunately it was wrong.

It was Eichmann who was sent to the Middle East to examine whether it was feasible to move all Germany's jews to what is now Israel. And he was shouted down by the Nazi party. That's got more than a tangential link to the semantic meaning of 'Zionism'.

And that's according to Anthony Beevor(EVERYONE loves his histories of WWII). He knows his shit.

It's just obviously very bad taste to exclaim that Hitler was a Zionist. Conceited at the least. But I get what he means(and technically he IS correct, if only for the fact that he mixed Eichmann up with Hitler. And they both hated Jews, obviously.).

He tried to make out that Hitler wasn't anti semitic when he was elected but "went mad" after he was elected.

Which is nonsense when you read Mein Kampf and see it was published long before he was elected.

There are a few Holocaust inverters around today and Livingston is just the latest to be found out, there are a few on this thread.

The false accusation of Holocaust inversion-the portraying of Israel, Israelis, and Jews as Nazis-is a major distortion of history. This anti-Semitic concept claims that Israel behaves against the Palestinians as Germany did to the Jews in World War II. “The victims have become perpetrators,” is one major slogan of the inverters. By shifting the moral responsibility for genocide, Holocaust inversion also contains elements of Holocaust denial.

Holocaust inverters come from many circles. A large number are Arabs or other Muslims. Others come from the extreme Left in the West. A variety of Western mainstream public figures have made Holocaust-inversion statements, including politicians, academics, authors, as well as the occasional Jew or Israeli.

Holocaust inversion is defined by the UN as anti Semitic.

No he said that 'Hitler was saying that Jews should be moved to Israel.he was supporting Zionism [in 1932].Then he went mad and killed six million of them.'

Ken didn't say he wasn't anti Semitic.Unfortunately saying Hitler was a Zionist is wrong in that it was Eichmann not Hitler who investigated the idea.

But strictly speaking(and I'm talking dictionary definitions here),then Eichamnn,in 1932,did investigate a Zionist idea.Ergo he WAS a Zionist.

Him being a Zionist does not mean he wasn't anti Semitic,he obviously was.

"So no posts from the people that told Polk and I that we were talking shit when we raised anti-semitism in the Labour party weeks ago:

https://m.fabswingers.com/forum/lounge/493833#last

....

That would be Edwalu then?

Conspicuous by the silence, as well as the other two wise men who follow his every word.....

At least we know what to expect when the 'ever rising in popularity' Mr Corbyn resigns before the next election to make way for someone that has a chance of winning... "

Rather than a bi election in a Labour safe seat being claimed as a great victory for Corbyn (as we have already seen on this forum) next weeks elections will be a real eye opener as to how the nation views Jeremy Corbyn's Labour party.

(Election analysts predict Labour will take a huge beating in next week's elections).

I don't think anyone can truly deny the holocaust happened, hand on heart, it would have been a quite incredulous conspiracy. I think there is more than enough evidence, anecdotal and actual to confirm such atrocities took place.

Neither do I think the a genocide is taking place in Palestine, the Israelis do not seek to exterminate the Palestinians, as Hitler once tried to exterminate them. They just want their land.

It is this, the destruction of Palestinian villages, the near constant grab for land that the Israelis should be held accountable for....

Nothing more and nothing less; if this makes me an anti-Semite, then, well, what can I do? Standing up for an impoverished weakened state in the face of aggressive powerful neighbours, is not anti-anything, perhaps I am just a Palestinian White Knight eh?

The criticism of the Israeli land grab policy does not make one an anti Semite.

To declare that Jewish people have no right to their own nation I suspect is.

(I am not for one second suggesting you are doing this)

And I wouldn't declare that anyone doesn't have a right to a nation, but that nation should not be taken and expanded by force.

The politics and anti-semitism of the early 20th century created the need to find a home for the Jewish people, they had a historical home in the middle east, so we (the beautiful British , ourselves perpetrators of land seizures throughout the ages), "gave" a percentage of land to the Jewish fleeing europe and its intolerance... We gave Kashmir to Pakistan too (oh and India), creating an everlasting war...

I am never going to point fingers and blame, else those fingers tend to rest at Whitehall.... but it's time.....It's time for peace, the world has been ravaged enough by war and greed.

Yeah.id say the jews don't have a divine right to israel, but they think they do.

There were people living there already...!!

Thing is,by the same logic, they are also living there now,so there needs to be peace, and the lifting of sanctions on the Palestinians.and giving them their land back they've taken in the last twenty or so years at the very least.

Only way it's going to end.but anyone says anything about it in the press they got shot down by some Zionists saying they are anti Semitic.it needs to stop, yes.

Balfour Declaration, anybody?

It's Britain's fault that Jews were settled in Palestine and promised a homeland.

Normalisation!.

You take something inherently unacceptable and make it seem rational!.

It's how the Nazi party started their little campaign on the Jewish people.

Now we need to understand the context of history to understand the Jewish state of Israel,I don't wanna go into detail but you've got a few million Jewish refugees, mostly European who've been persecuted and now want a state (a home) of their own, they arrived on mass to the state of Palestine, a state that for many years had relative peace with about 80% Muslim population 10% Jewish 10% Christian.

That state was "controlled" by the British since the first world war.

Now when a few million Jewish refugees started landing by boat in Palestine is where the problems began, the Jewish refugees, somewhat obviously wanted a country controlled by, well Jews,a sort of obvious control to make sure what had happened, never happened again.

So they set about getting the piece of land promised to them from God!, that's quite an important point, this land according to Jewish religion was and always has been the promised land.

Now let's just remember how the Jewish refugees gained it.... Through terrorism, yes they set up several Jewish terrorists groups that firstly bombed British soldiers out of Palestine and then went house to house killing Palestinians,I mean that's how they moved them out of Israeli territory, through fear of death, are you really that surprised that the Palestinians use the very same tactic today?.

Now the problem with the left is, they see and can't help feeling aggrieved by the situation and with any bad situation comes remarks like yid, hook nose, Zionist... To be fair the Israelis hold a lid on the situation only because they're a democracy and like all democracies they have their own opponents to the system.

So anti Semitic.. Not really, it's not like they're opposed to Jewish people perse, it's more like there opposed to the Jewish state of Israel that is in reality openly breaking about 20 odd UN resolutions, have acquired nuclear weapons against the UN proliferation treaty and receive hundreds of millions in US military aid, despite being a wealthy country.

Whereas if your a Palestinian or a gazan you don't even have water, let alone electricity or medicine or basic necessities!.

So where's the real problem,a few people called big nose that live free and prosperous or millions of people condemned to a life of hell in a place they can't even walk away from.... It's a concentration camp by any other means.
