I've heard its a pig to get rid of.

It's flu, no worse than any other. Yes it will mutate, but so does every flu strain.

Guess your going to be at risk for all the bugs that go round then

Mind you most people who have it seem to have nothing to do with health care so.....

Not worried for ourselves, apparantly for healthy people the symptoms are no more than an annoyance

However for people who have serious health conditions the virus could have serious consequences, worst case scenario of course is death, as has been heard on the news today.

Of course the same could be said for 'ordinary' flu

It's probably some kind of germ warfare which has leaked from a top secret laboratory somewhere - hance the vaccine is already at hand

I suspect that it was released deliberately to see how quickly it would travel and the effect it would have. So what that a couple of hundred of people have actually died from it, so what that businesses lose thousands of pounds in lost man hours. The govts of the world don't give a fook about that, so long as they've tested their new 'toy' properly.

Agreed it is okay for the fit and healthy to scoff but if you are the family of a child with 'underlying health issues' or a weakened immune system following chemo therapy then it could be a time to break out the worry beads. Not everyone is blessed with the same good health we would all wish to enjoy.

No one is denying that, but this is media created pandemic scare, and this current outbreak is no worse than other flu epidemics. People quickly drew paralells with the 1918 spanish flu, with out taking into account the major differences between era's. Paper selling scaremongering at its best

Rushden

The Government jumped on this bandwagon to take the heat off the expenses row! They and the media have used it on slow news days to try and interest us all, now they are having to back down and say they will let it run its course!! How bad can it be, if they are now happy to let it spread???

I beleive it is one of the mildest flu virus's they have found, but giving out this Tamiflu antiviral worldwide had increased its resistance!!

Seems to be a symptom of the British peoples state of mind! The British are never happy unless they have something to frighten the shite out of them!! Or something to worry about or something to mourn over!! For gods sake!! We even now have severe weather warnings for thunder storms!!!

I just wish this pre-occupation with doom would end and I live in hope.... And one day pigs might fly!!!

"A new strain of flu that mysteriously appears from nowhere and is closely followed by a vaccine... hmmmm "

A flu strain that is made up of human flu (so we can catch it?) avian flu (cos its nasty), pig flu, (no idea why) and one other strain........ well, I am reliably informed that this type of hybridisation doesnt happen by accident, so, whats the alternative?

Its VERY possible that someone is carrying out low level biological attacks on us. Foot and Mouth, Avian flu, that bad winter flu a few years ago, all seemed to come out of nowhere, and spread despite stringent controls.

In the mountains of Pakistan, American special forces found an Al Qaieda training camp, and watched it for a while, until one day all was quiet. When they went down to check it out, they found everyone was dead from A plague type disease. There had been an accident in a rudimentary Labratory, and something had infected the people there.

Face it guys and dolls, someone out there is planning summat nasty.

"A flu strain that is made up of human flu (so we can catch it?) avian flu (cos its nasty), pig flu, (no idea why) and one other strain........ well, I am reliably informed that this type of hybridisation doesnt happen by accident"

Yes it can, just rarely. The reason why these illnesses start out in the third world is because so many people live with farm animals in their houses, increasing the chance of cross mutation. This one started in Mexico, Avian flu in the far east, as did the big daddy in 1918.

"Foot and Mouth, Avian flu, that bad winter flu a few years ago, all seemed to come out of nowhere, and spread despite stringent controls."

Sorry but thats 2+2=6 logic. Foot mouth was down to a dumbass farmer illegally feeding cross infected feed to cattle, Avian flu was hardly a world killer was it, and the winter flu a few years ago was no different to the 30 or so other major outbreaks we had in the last century. Flu comes, flu goes. It's being doing that for thousands of years.

Thanks to the tabloid press everyone is going to jumping at flu shaped shadows for years to come. This particular strain may develop into something as potent as the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic. It may not. It may do it next year, or the year after, or maybe never. Flu mutation is a randomn event

Ironically anyone catching it now may stand a better chance of surving the next generation of it (if it mutates into something that bad). Any antibodies developed now, could well be capable killing off an uber version.

Either way, I ain't losing sleep over it

Solihull

its no more worse than regular flu, over 7000 ppl a year die from ful, but these are elderly and frail ppl, like the little girl from Hnadsworth who had multiple illness, I have it on good authority, the drugs the NHS handing out are extremely effective, and there are none left to buy up in the UK, the NHS and Government have purchased over 60 million doses which is far more than the UK requires, hope this helps, but you think its bad, we have it three doors down at a closed school ffs lol, havent washed our hands as m uch and held our breath for so long x x x
