"I'd rather the USSR have just closed off an area for nature and not gone to the trouble of chucking loads of radiation into the atmosphere " That is true, I think we all wish that, but at least something good has come out of this, it proves nature finds a way even in the most difficult circumstances. I remember getting suited up including B.A. to change air intake filters on North Sea Generators as we recorded very high fall out counts.

"I'd rather the USSR have just closed off an area for nature and not gone to the trouble of chucking loads of radiation into the atmosphere " so you're not grateful for the destruction it caused? Selfish.

"Bit hard to stomach this, it was a day of celebration in the USSR at the time (hence the travelling fair you will see in some photos), young girls and boys excited about the new school term...... .....blessing in disguise? The generations affected by cancers? The impact of foraged food sources in Poland and Belarus..... I guess if you think about wolves and wild boar, then yes it's all cool, but the human suffering? This was no blessing" So I take it you just want this to be a baron waste land for ever, I watched an amazing documentary on this a few days back and the recovery of wild life is simply amazing, even the white tailed Eagles are increasing in number, and believe it or not they are not being effected by the radioactive fish they are eating shit happens, but for something good to flourish from it is good whether you could stomach it or not

"Ukraine marks 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster Reactor 4. The meltdown at the Soviet plant was the worst nuclear disaster in history. " I'd say what the Americans done to Japan was the worst nuclear disasters this world has ever witnessed. That was killing for the sake of killing Chernobyl may be the worst nuclear accident ever though.

Nature finding a way actually occurred inside reactor 4!!. They found an algae growing inside the most contaminated bit!.

Notice how I didn't put words into YOUR mouth....

I think your getting a bit confused or at least confusing people on the thread, the recovery of wildlife has just come from the humans moving out!. It's got nothing to do with wildlife recovering from Chernobyl, a nuclear plant disaster and a nuclear bomb going off are two completely different things. You get a great deal of destruction from a bomb and very little from a nuclear plant going tits up. Where as you get a great deal more contamination from a plant going tits up than you do from a bomb

" so the animals have done well in their radioactive hell-hole.. no mention of mutants deformities and cancer then ..but then there wouldnt be would there ..the mainstream media dont like to mention whats really going on . too busy with more important stuff. dont believe the bullshit ,we'll be paying dearly for a long time to come. radiation doesnt go away in 30 years " I work with radiation every day when offshore, part of my job, so I do have a good understanding of the hazards involved and your comment - " no mention of mutants deformities and cancer" actually that is correct there is no mention and that is what was astounding in the documentary that so many of the wild life inhabitants were uncontaminated even the ones feeding on contaminated fish I thought it was good viewing, perhaps I should stick to coronation street and see how bet lynch and Anny walker are doing

I am sure it was an interesting documentary, we will just stick with our coronation street You asked in your thread title "... a godsend in disguise...?" Yet disregard all opinions to the contrary of what you believe..... 4.1% of the Ukraine is built upon., 17.5% is forest and about 60% is used for agriculture of some kind. Has this been a godsend for the animals, not really, with 17.5% forest, the animals described in the documentary have land enough, and in-fact may be harming their continued survival by frequenting the area of chernobyl, and introducing potential genetic mutations into their species........ Now if you don't mind, Eastenders is on

" so You asked in your thread title "... a godsend in disguise...?" Yet disregard all opinions to the contrary of what you believe..... " Yes I did ask "was this a godsend in disguise" and everyone is open to their view, many even misread it and could not even see the "was this" I am personally happy that life goes on and nature has a way of re-building and replenishing, enjoy your eastenders, nice to hear it is still broadcast, how many years you been sitting in front of tv watching this now
