There used to be an Avon range called Skin So Soft and the body lotion kept them away they also used to do a sun screen with insect repellent in it that worked for me. Nowadays I use a traditional insect repellent and a ugly in device at night.

When I or rather my auto correct wrote "ugly device" it was supposed to say "plug in" device

. Last year Mr N used to go round the bedroom each night killing the little blighters before we went to sleep.

Are you sure it's mosquitoes? My mum spent every summer for about three years blaming them only to find she was allergic to hairy caterpillars in their garden

Yes , definitely mosies , I was in Africa and Asia , worked in both areas

Agreed. I'm taking te mosquito affection as a compliment!

Some anti itch cream is also good but I don't think it works as well as I inagine it would.

Lol if it helps, I've no idea how the stop the blight ers biting you other than spray and cover your skin, and keep the room you're sleeping in as cold as poss... But if they do bite you, pour boiling water into a cup and put a teaspoon into the boiling water, take spoon out and without burning yourself, apply to the bite, it takes the itching away, much better than any cream I've found...

About 60% of humans are invisible to mosquitos, they don't produce the right pheromones for the mosquito to smell, at night while your asleep they home in on the carbon dioxide on your breath!... Well that's the excuse I told the wife when she woke with me holding a pillow over her face

A low dose antihistamine like Piriton will greatly _educe the amount of bites, and stop any bites you do get from itching. If you get as badly bitten as me, take a Piriton daily over Summer, as well as vitamin B12 and use a 50% Deet spray in the early evening.

I've read that rubbing a bit of Vicks vapour rub on wrists, behind knees and on ankles is an effective deterrent. And if the buggers do get you, a dab of Vicks will _educe the itching. Nothing to lose by giving it a go.

Mosquitoes and midges are attracted by the CO2 in exhaled breath and perspiration. If you really want to avoid being eaten by them buy yourself an activated charcoal mask and underwear. Otherwise stay close to things that breath and sweat heavier than you.

I will agree with this. Being in the pest control trade theres nothing else more you can do apart from not being around water as this is a breeding ground for them. If you go to the doctors they can prescribe you with some sort of anti-biotic which _educes the pheromone in your body which attracts the midges. Hope that helps

I remember once years back when I was away with my parents we were by a loch in scotland in a cottage alongside were trees etc it was lethal for mosquitoes either the water or the trees or both attracted them I was thinking it was around september time but I remember a pair of house martins nesting so it had to be around may/june time How the locals get used to them I can,t Imagine they must either become Immune to the bites or know how to keep out of the way, luckily something I don,t have to worry about here apart from the odd ones and most of those I squash..

and only rarely do I get bit (venom for blood) and always in my bedroom when I,m a sleep that quick buzz near my ear alerts me but they can be buggers to find they have a clever habit of dropping out of sight, more some years than others but the bedroom walls are where they usually settle.

I've got a solar powe_ed insect attracter and killer: it partly goes against my principles to kill insects that are needed as food by other animals, though I do like not to be bitten.

Citronella, such as from candles, will also deter them. French Marigolds, which are frost tender annual plants, also have a deterrent effect as do their smaller flowe_ed cousins Tagetes: these can become smothe_ed in tiny bright flowers during summer and look lovely.

Wear cool clothing over as much of your body as possible too.
