I was unable to do anything but lay in bed shaking with cold sweats & feeling physically sick. I no longer doubt my meds; I still have off days but am pinpointing down the triggers that always seem to occur just before my mood drops. Just do as much as you feel like doing while your low & it will pass. | |||

If you are struggling, lay off the pop ![]() very true I have always enjoyed a drink iam no where near as bad as I was used to drink before work and have a pint of vodka and mixer before bed now I don't drink alone make sure iam in a pub with friends or even just meet some one and have a chat I just get a bit bad some times but that's mostly when iam feeling good at the start of the night and do th whole'i will be fine if I have a few more' but now I do go from drinking every day for a week to not having a drop for a month or even better drinking 7 up when iam in a pub also had a friend who knew I was down so she asked if I wanted to go fo tea with her and her bf and kids was a really good night part from waking up on the sofa to a child hugging me ( I don't have kids and am single so did not know what to do but was cute til she drooled over my shirt lol) | |||

"I had an anxiety disorder when I left the army. It wasn't PTSD but the my gp said it was a related condition. He put me on sertraline for 6 months and I also had therapy once a fortnight. Did the job for me. I'm as right as rain now. " well glad your feeling better mate. I had over the phone counselling but did not help much tbh | |||

"Let it out op. Ive been on anti depressants for 4 yrs & still have off days. Im no doctor but would recommend Citalopram. Im only on 20mg but they certainly help. good luck pal" been on them 3 years and that's what iam on I take 40mg a day but thanks mate means a lot | |||

Xx" very true the thing that shocks me is yes is all swingers site and such but how in one way it's not at all and just love chatting with other about diffrent things other then sex and every one posting and such has been so kind I find I curl up in bed watch a kids film and eat crap not the best thing but helps a little lol | |||

Alot of people who abuse alcohol also have depression. But what's hard to establish is this.... Is the excessive drinking the cause of the depression or is the depression the cause of the excessive drinking? One thing I do know for sure to get to the answer you first have to remove alcohol from the equation. Difficult to do especially when using alcohol to self medicate. This would be best done with help and guidance from your doctor or health professional as detoxing can have dangerous side effects depending on a number of factors both physical and mental. I would think removing alcohol from your life would be a step in the right direction for your first step to try and get to the root of your depression. But most importantly I got my shit together, I got a job, moved residence and started taking steps to change my life. Antidepressants can help but ultimately it's up to you to move forward, nobody can or will do it for you. | |||

"I know exactly how your feeling. What worked for me was stopping my meds and getting a routine so I got back into the gym 6 days a week after work. Keeps me busy mind and body. Find something that makes you happy get out socialising but not getting wastes lol. I'm feel really good now after 8 years of not. Still have the odd day but he who doesn't. "This isn't necessarily a cure but it can help. Having regular cold showers has been shown to help with depression and anxiety. It won't cure it on it's own but just a bit of a help. They call it Hydrotherapy. Didn't want to make you feel worse but that's how it feels right? | |||

I've struggled a lot with this and know it makes a big difference to my sense of well-being. I must admit I'm not a fan of medication - the ones I took had a lot of side effects, including sexual. I think some people do need them, but just be aware of what you're taking. | |||

"Excersise would help a lot, especially running, start carefully though, avoid pills if you can " Depending on the individual persons needs pills can help a great deal, I suffered for about 15 years with depression and at my lowest points (emphasis on plural) I could quite easily have topped myself, it's not because my life was so terrible but my brains chemical balance was off. Pills stop you from getting that low and save lives I only wish there was more awareness and help available for people who suffer from depression/anxiety/bi-polar as a lot of death can be avoided and so easily. | |||

I know you might not want to go outside when you're feeling bad but even just a quick brisk walk could help clear your head and lift your mood. | |||

"A site like this is first of all not really a place to find answers and also emotionless sex although fun at the time and can be confidence building can also make your depression worse due to the lack of emotional commitment, if your still feeling uncontrollably bad you should contact your doctor and have your meds reviewed as each ones affect people in different ways, what could work for one person may not for another but meds are only there to help you manage, the best thing is talking to others and getting out there and socialising on the days you feel better, make the most of your good days and accept your bad ones for what they are and don't tell yourself off for having one, on a bad day try putting your ipod on earphones in with a mix of your fave uplifting tunes and ones from times in your life that may have caused your depression and go for a walk maybe even stop for a bite to eat (of something light and healthy), let yourself be engulfed by your thoughts but finish with some uplifting music that has no connection to any memory." thank you and I am\have started working out again and if anything have been seeing more people so that has been doing me a world of good and I think the meds I am on are good I just don't wanna go any higher on them ( iam on 40mg a day) | |||

"I have suffered for a number of years. Tried councilling, cbt neither seemed of much help,both while on 100mg of certralin. But now just coming to the end of a course of therapy called EMDR. It has been a revalation for me. Reduced my meds to 50mg and I feel like a new person. I know that I am still suffering but there is a lot less bad days and apparently things continue to get better after the therapy has Finnished. I agree with a lot of the earlier post, exercise is also very important. Doesn't have to be the gym. A decent walk will be good enough. As long as you start doing it regularly. Ask your doctor to put you in touch with your local mental health services. They will assess you and give you a number of treatment suggestions. I hope that you are feeling better soon, but unfortunately it is usually a long and rocky road. Just persevere and you will find what is the best sort of help for you. As someone else said, it can just be a walk. Concentrate on being nice to yourself and try to identify and avoid situations that add to stress and worries. I know I have a tendency to take on things I shouldn't in some vain effort to "fight it". Organising that orgy with eight Brazilian pornstars was a prime example. Stressful ![]() | |||
