"I would never shop in bhs as they do seem old fashioned and don't cater for my tastes. I do however make a conscious decision to buy from the high street rather than online to keep people in employment. I also never use a self service checkout. We can all do a little to help the economy and employment. " Me too. If I do end up having to use the self check-out I make sure the one person there is engaged in the transaction.

" We used the automated service in the post office the other day and afterwards I said we should have queued at the counter because they will be collecting stats on how many people use which method. The problem was we were in and out while people who had joined the queue before we got there were still waiting.

There was a time when lots of us refused to shop in chain stores on the High Street because it was doing the small independents out of business.

"Supermarkets are the main reason why a lot of the high st is going , one trip to get everything you need , we all lead busier lives than our parents used to , it's the convenience of the places , food , electrical goods , clothes all under one roof , whereas in years past you'd need to visit half a dozen shops to get your shopping it can all be done under the one roof now , throw in Internet shopping and the decline of the high st is hardly surprising "

"Oh great now where will i get my kids school clothes from Asda oh great there's no Asda near me " Their school trousers don't fit my grandson. He's podgy and the waist doesn't fit. I'm hoping he has a growth spurt and slims his waist down. His brother is skinny and he has to have skinny fit bhs trousers.

"Love how the big supermarket's killed the corner shop trader only to re invent it as "local" or "metro".... So cheeky. " One-Stop shops are owned by one of the big supermarket brands , they open them if one of their " local / express " stores are denied planning

"Unless they turn things around sharpish marks and sparks will soon follow " Once bought a duvet set in Asda, was £12. Went into M&S a few weeks later, they had the exact same set, same make, same size, £56. One time it meant quality, now is just same stuff everyone else sells only much more expensive.

"I feel for the workers who are losing out, but I don't think you can blame the likes of asda and tesco, bus just didn't move with the times, it became a dinosaur of the high street, and in today's retail market, you can't rest on your brand name to keep the tills ringing. If you look at bhs vs primark primark are selling clothes that are relevant, not necessarily of the same quality, but most of their stuff is out of fashion before it's too torn up to wear, but bhs is trying to cater to a generation that is dwindling, and think that each generation becomes clones of the one before, it doesn't work like that." this.... its the primarks, matalans and the supermarkets that started selling clothes that did it in for BHS... they got squeezed... remember they use to be the cheaper end before they have now been outpriced.... and as for sports direct.... they will just strip it for the city centre locations....

"such a shame, and yes i did shop in bhs. even if just a browse it had stuff mainly at xmas for the folks. kinda sums up the country. anything "british" no longer exists. if its profitable its sold abroad. we all like a bargain, but think what conditions the goods are made in. how long before zero industry and we lower the standards. steel buyout? remember Rover buy out? the directors fleeced the gov in handouts and still folded with massive pensions. the big city service mentality doesn't acknowledge the need for industry and in 10 years we may be screwed. rant over." BHS was set up by Americans.

"You cant blame other shops for them going down the pan, the reason lots of the old stores have suffered is because the new ones sell cheap crap made by child or very poorly paid labour, everyone wants to pay a pittance for stuff these days so they go to primark and buy a vest for £2 and then complain when its their job that goes, too many say they want british made goods but dont actually do it, most of the problems go back to the days of the 70's when the management of British industry was very poor and the unions went on strike every two minutes, the UK was fat and lazy and the rest of the world took over" I think you will find most of the old shops are/were selling the same "cheap crap". BHS demise is more to do with the retailer/brand not adapting and changing to how the consumer wants to buy the product.

"Phillip Green bought the group for 200 million and took out 400 million. They like to call it asset stripping however it's basically theft, especially as the pension pot is now is deficit. I'd like to suggest boycotting all Greens shops, but if we did it would only be the workers that suffer. Personnaly I'd like Greens new yacht to sink with him on " Or he could fall over board like robert maxwell.. then came along jaws I,ll leave the rest to your Imagination..
